Honoring the Vietnamese Sepak Takraw Team to attend ASIAD 19

On the evening of October 10, Vietnam Law Newspaper held a ceremony to honor the Vietnamese Sepak Takraw team participating in the 19th ASIAD.

Previously, on October 4, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team entered the final match of the 4-person team event at the 19th ASIAD, against Indonesia with great confidence. The final match was dramatic and exciting from start to finish. We lost the first game but successfully turned the tables to make history. The ASIAD Sepak Takraw gold medal after 17 long years of waiting; the journey to win the gold medal was full of hardship but no less glorious for the golden girls of the Vietnamese women's Sepak Takraw team. As a result, the Vietnamese Sepak Takraw team won the gold medal, silver medal (for women) and bronze medal (for men).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Hong Tinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Sepak Takraw Federation, the National Assembly's Committee for Science , Technology and Environment shared: This is truly a joy and pride in the achievements that the Sepak Takraw players have achieved. To achieve that was not easy, the players tried very hard to practice, went through many difficulties in training, happiness seemed like a dream. It can be said that this generation of players is the "golden" generation, they have achieved many successes in many different arenas, I am very proud of them.

Talking about the journey to success and glory of the Vietnamese Sepak Takraw team, Mr. Le Thanh Son - Vice President and General Secretary of the Federation, Head of the Vietnam Sepak Takraw Team happily shared that being able to achieve the current success is a great effort of the players, we and the players have gone through 2 difficult years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the players still practiced diligently to achieve high results, not letting down the expectations of the Coaching Board, as well as the leaders of the Federation, the players have made efforts and achieved high results in the 19th ASIAD.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Vu Hoai Nam, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Law Newspaper, highly appreciated the achievements of the Sepak Takraw Federation in general and the athletes in particular. Winning gold medals in different competitions was a tireless and resilient effort of the athletes.

Also at the ceremony, Vietnam Law Newspaper awarded a total of 300 million VND to the coaching staff and Sepak Takraw athletes who won Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals at the 19th ASIAD.

Over the past 17 years, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team has been blocked from winning the championship many times at many levels. However, we have gradually reasserted our position, not only in the Southeast Asian region. In two consecutive years, 2022 and 2023, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team won the world championship in this four-woman event.

Before attending ASIAD 19, the Vietnamese sepak takraw team competed in SEA Games 32, then the world championship, and the Asian championship.

However, at the 32nd SEA Games in May in Cambodia, our girls lost to the Thai team in the women's four-person team final. Even many athletes who won the SEA Games convincingly, but when they entered the ASIAD arena, they "sunk". However, coach Tran Thi Vui and her team quickly regained their balance and 5 months later reaped sweet fruit in Hangzhou (China).

With the extremely valuable ASIAD 19 gold medal in the women's four-person team event, it not only "quenched the thirst" for medals but also helped Vietnam raise its position on the continental sports map.
