Honoring the contributions of female peacekeepers

According to information from the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department ( Ministry of National Defense ), on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2023), Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 participating in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) organized practical activities to welcome and introduce the image of the country and people of Vietnam, and the tradition of the heroic Vietnam People's Army to international friends.

In response to the week celebrating the founding anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 organized a series of activities to promote the unit, the country, the People's Army and the Vietnamese people in the area where it is operating; renovated and decorated the unit; organized many exchange and sports activities both inside and outside the hospital with other units.

The activities of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 have contributed to reviewing the heroic achievements of our Army, so that all officers and staff of the Hospital can further cultivate pride in being military medical soldiers in particular and wearing the uniform of the United Nations peacekeeping force of Vietnam; promote and spread the image of the country and people of Vietnam; convey the message to international friends about a Vietnamese people who are always friendly, love peace and want to be friends with all countries in the world.

On this occasion, Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian, Commander of the Military Force of the UNMISS Mission, South Sudan, visited, worked and exchanged with Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5, during a working trip to Bentiu sub-region.

Lieutenant General Subramanian spent 4 years working in Vietnam. For him, Vietnam has many memories and familiarity. Lieutenant General Subramanian surprised many officers and doctors of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 when he showed his knowledge about Tan Trao banyan tree, Dien Bien Phu victory associated with the legendary general of Vietnam - General Vo Nguyen Giap. The stories about General Vo Nguyen Giap told by Dr. Le Minh Tan, Deputy Director of the hospital, along with Lieutenant General Subramanian's sharing about the famous general, made the working session more lively and intimate. In addition, Lieutenant Colonel, Doctor, Doctor Nguyen Ha Ngoc, Director of the Hospital, introduced to the Commander of the Military Forces the unit's bookcase and presented him with two books about beloved Uncle Ho and the Vietnam People's Army.

Thanking the thoughtful reception from Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5, Lieutenant General Subramanian said he was very impressed to hear about the history and tradition of the heroic Vietnam People's Army; enjoy the taste of pure Vietnamese coffee, especially to see again the image of the traditional Vietnamese ao dai in the distant country of South Sudan.

Appreciating the performance of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5, the Commander of the UNMISS Military Force acknowledged the contributions of the unit in particular and of the Vietnam People's Army in general to the United Nations peacekeeping force at the UNMISS mission. To recognize and honor the great contributions of female soldiers working at Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5, Lieutenant General Subramanian presented a certificate of merit to Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang for her outstanding achievements.

Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 will depart for South Sudan to carry out peacekeeping missions from July 2023. The hospital has 63 members (including 11 women), selected from a number of military regions, army corps, Military Hospital 175, Vietnam Peacekeeping Department and a number of other units. The hospital's forces are thoroughly trained in all aspects such as politics, military, technical logistics, medical expertise, peacekeeping knowledge close to the actual situation, fully meeting the United Nations criteria and requirements for performing tasks at the mission.

Replacing Level 2 Field Hospital No. 4, which successfully completed its mission and returned home, Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 continues the noble mission of the Vietnamese blue beret medical soldiers in South Sudan. The continuous continuation of the United Nations peacekeeping mission of Vietnamese level 2 field hospital teams in South Sudan has contributed to affirming Vietnam's responsible, active participation and long-term commitment to United Nations peacekeeping activities.
