Vinh Long launches design competition for Mekong Delta Agricultural Museum

On June 12, at the Memorial Site of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet (Vung Liem District, Vinh Long), the People's Committee of Vinh Long province held a launching ceremony for the competition to select planning ideas and architectural plans for the Mekong Delta Agricultural Museum.

Mr. Lu Quang Ngoi, Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee, spoke at the launching ceremony.

The organizers said that the Mekong Delta plays an important role in the country's economy with two main economic "pillars" being agriculture and aquaculture. Vietnam has more than 160 museums at many levels, many specialties, under many different ministries and branches, but no place has built an agricultural museum.

Therefore, the construction of an agricultural museum in the Mekong Delta region has great significance for the Mekong Delta region in general and Vinh Long province in particular. This is not only a place to preserve the beauty of agricultural culture but also a place to honor Vietnamese farmers throughout the process of building and developing the country.

The competition for planning ideas and architectural plans for the Mekong Delta Agricultural Museum was held to select the most optimal plan for investing in the construction and organization of an agricultural museum, as a basis for implementing detailed planning at a scale of 1/500 and establishing an investment project for construction of the project.

The requirements for the competition entries are as follows: Find a design idea for the museum's architectural works, creating an important cultural institution, worthy of the role and position of the agricultural sector in the country's socio-economic development; promote the values of agricultural cultural heritage in the Mekong Delta; serve the needs of tourism, study, scientific research, cultural enjoyment of the public and promote current agricultural products in the Mekong Delta. Propose solutions to orient the planning of functional zoning and agricultural experience areas, in accordance with the general planning of Vung Liem town; at the same time, the Mekong Delta Agricultural Museum will become a connecting point for tourist routes with neighboring areas. The total value of the prize is nearly 2 billion VND.

At the launching ceremony, Mr. Lu Quang Ngoi, Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee, emphasized the importance and significance of the project: "The Mekong Delta Agricultural Museum is designed and displayed in a modern style, following the new trends of modern museums in the world. This will be a place to gather many original artifacts and documents, along with vivid and fascinating stories about Vietnamese culture and history. The museum will become an attractive public place, an architectural highlight, a destination for tourism, entertainment, learning, research, cultural and creative activities...".

According to the Organizing Committee, the plans participating in the competition for planning ideas and architectural plans for the Mekong Delta Agricultural Museum will be exhibited and the award results will be announced in October 2024.
