The case of 154 students not coming to class after Tet: Transferring schools is a last resort

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí08/02/2025

(Dan Tri) - To protest the transfer of schools, parents in Quang Binh did not send 154 students to class. According to local leaders, the transfer was a last resort, because the classrooms were seriously degraded.

The case of 154 students at Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1, Ba Don Town (Quang Binh) not returning to class after the Lunar New Year holiday is attracting public attention. Local authorities and the school are making efforts to persuade parents to send their children back to school.

The main reason for this situation is parents' opposition to the decision to transfer students from a satellite school in Tan My residential group, Quang Phuc ward to the main school about 2km away.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Phuc Ward, said that the transfer of students was due to the fact that the satellite school was too degraded. The two classrooms at Tan My were built in 1994 and are now dilapidated, have leaky tile roofs and are often flooded during the rainy season.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Don town, transferring students to the main school is a last resort to ensure the safety of teachers and students. The local government will continue to mobilize and propagate to gain parents' consent to bring their children back to class.

Mr. Phan Tien Lam, Principal of Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1, said that the school has been teaching for 5 days after Tet. The fact that parents do not bring their children back to class has directly affected the teaching and learning rights of students.

Mr. Lam also informed that at the main campus, the school has fully prepared facilities such as desks, chairs, blackboards, televisions, and computer, music , and English rooms to best serve the learning and living needs of students.
