The fire at Chau Long market in Chau Doc city was caused by an electrical short circuit.

On the afternoon of December 31, information from the People's Committee of Chau Doc City ( An Giang ) said that the authorities had determined the initial cause of the fire at Chau Long market in Vinh My Ward, Chau Doc City, which burned down most of the kiosks, was due to an electrical short circuit.

Specifically, at around 6am the same day, a coffee shop owner near Chau Long market discovered a fire in the market, immediately shouted and informed the Civil Defense Team of Chau Long 1 Hamlet , Vinh My Ward to find a way to put out the fire. Afterwards, the Civil Defense Team quickly put out the fire with on-site firefighting equipment , but failed, the fire spread.

After 45 minutes of coordination between many forces and residents, the fire was contained and prevented from spreading to the surrounding area. At about 8:00 a.m. the same day, nearly 2 hours after the fire broke out, the fire was controlled and completely extinguished.

The fire caused the traders at Chau Long market, Chau Doc city to suffer about 5 billion VND in damage.

According to the Chau Doc City People's Committee, the market area that caught fire was a stall area selling used clothes built in 2000 and has now deteriorated. The fire did not cause any human casualties, but burned down most of the kiosks, with total damage estimated at about 5 billion VND. The cause of the fire was initially determined to be an electrical short circuit.

On the same afternoon, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province and Chau Doc city organized a delegation to visit, encourage and support 6 million VND/small trader whose property was damaged due to the market fire .
