The case of doctoral thesis plagiarism in Hue: The re-evaluation council did not know each other

On April 14, the leaders of the Training and Student Affairs Department of Hue University said that they had established a council to re-evaluate the doctoral thesis of Ms. Le Thi An Hoa (head of scientific research department, Hue Monuments Conservation Center) which was concluded to contain plagiarism.

Accordingly, a council of 7 members was established to re-evaluate the entire doctoral thesis at the request of the Ministry of Education and Training . Unlike previous times, Hue University issued 7 separate decisions for 7 members of this council.

All members of the council are anonymous, no one knows that each other is participating in the council to ensure the most objective final assessment results.

After re-reading the entire thesis (except for 12 pages that were found to contain plagiarism), each member of the council will send their individual evaluation results to the council chairman, who is the leader of Hue University, expected before April 15.

After receiving these 7 results, the council chairman will hold an online meeting to review, comment on, and re-evaluate Ms. Hoa’s entire doctoral thesis. Council members will participate in this meeting anonymously.

"After the evaluation results are available, we will decide whether to propose revoking Ms. Hoa's doctoral thesis or not based on the council's evaluation results according to regulations," said the leader of the Training and Student Affairs Department of Hue University.

Previously, as reported by Tuoi Tre Online , the Ministry of Education and Training sent an official dispatch requesting Hue University to re-evaluate the content of Ms. Le Thi An Hoa's doctoral thesis, which was concluded to contain plagiarism.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training requested Hue University to re-evaluate this doctoral thesis, thereby determining the disciplinary action against Ms. Hoa.

In case the thesis no longer meets the requirements of a doctoral thesis, Hue University needs to consider the responsibility of the council that approved the above doctoral thesis.
