Bring your own lunch or go home for lunch

According to Ms. D.Th., a parent of a 3rd grade student at Cu Khe Primary School (Binh Minh Commune, Hanoi ), after the incident of bringing spoiled meat and eggs into the school kitchen was discovered, on October 16 - after a meeting between 24/30 parents of the class and the school - the Board of Directors issued a notice to temporarily suspend boarding for students.

Specifically, the school announced that based on the results of the interdisciplinary inspection team and through working with the parents, the school terminated the contract with Nhat Anh Company. The school is expected to resume boarding services for students on October 20.

However, on October 19, homeroom teachers of each class group sent out a survey about two options for boarding care:

Option 1: Parents bring lunch to school for their children. The school will arrange for teachers to take care of the children while they eat and rest in class.

Option 2: Parents pick up their children after morning classes and bring them back to school for afternoon classes.

“Since both of us have to work all day, we cannot pick up and drop off our children at noon. It is not safe to prepare lunch for our children to bring to school in this hot weather, so I am temporarily letting my children stay home from school,” said Ms. D.Th.

According to this parent, this morning many parents let their children stay home from school, some classes had less than 10 students coming to school.

Ms. LT, a parent of a second grade student at the school, said that this morning she let her child stay home from school because the school did not properly resolve the boarding issue for the student's parents.

"I feel sorry for my child to stay home from school, but I cannot let him eat dirty, unsanitary food," said Ms. T.

Mr. Ng.D.D. also informed that his family let their child bring lunch to school, but in the hot weather, it is difficult to ensure food hygiene and safety. Tomorrow, if the school does not have another plan, the family will let their child stay home from school.

"Can't stay at home, can't go out"

According to Dan Tri reporter, this afternoon, many parents lined up at the school gate to bring lunch to their children because they were afraid that the lunch they brought in the morning would not be safe.

In many applications for permission for their children to stay home from school at Cu Khe Primary School today, many parents also boldly stated that the reason for the stay is because the school did not properly implement the content of the previous meeting with parents.

"The reason why families do not let their children go to school is not because they cannot prepare meals for their children, but because they need a clear and responsible answer from the school," reads an excerpt from a parent's leave of absence application.

In another petition, parents also said that their children would stay home from school until the school had a clear announcement about organizing boarding school.

Ms. LT said that when the incident happened, the school handled it very awkwardly and gave unclear notice: "So how long do we, the parents, have to let our children bring their own lunch or wait? The school needs to give a timeline so that parents can understand," she said.

According to this parent, although the school needs time to find a new supplier, the notice needs to provide specific information to parents.

“Parents really want the school to cooperate. Here, the school's announcements only give two options: Let your child bring lunch or pick them up at noon.

We don’t know how long this situation will last. We need the school to have goodwill to avoid the current situation where we can’t keep our children at home and can’t send them to school,” Ms. LT said indignantly.

Responding quickly to Dan Tri reporter this afternoon, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nam, Principal of Cu Khe Primary School, said that the school is handling the matter.
