Surpassing Ronaldo, Son Heung Min won the award for Best Asian Player

(Dan Tri) - Striker Son Heung Min continues to break his own record when he won the title of Best Asian Player for the 10th time. Cristiano Ronaldo only ranked third in this year's vote.

The Best Footballer in Asia award is decided by 64 journalists from around the world. This prestigious award is organized by Titan Sports, with the results voted by a panel of 64 journalists (including 42 AFC representatives and 22 international guests).

Journalists base their evaluations on the players' performances between August 16, 2024 and July 16, 2025. To ensure fairness, the award applies a clear scoring rule: 6 points for first place, 4 points for second place, and so on.

Notably, if two players have the same total score, the deciding criteria will be based on the number of first-place votes they receive, before considering second-place votes and lower rankings.

With 146 points from experts, Son Heung Min was honored at the award organized annually by Chinese newspaper Titan Sports. This is the 10th time Son Heung Min has won the award, after 2014, 2015 and the period from 2017 to 2023.

The Korean star surpassed his compatriot Lee Kang In, who is currently playing for Paris Saint Germain, (105 points). Meanwhile, superstar Ronaldo of Al Nassr (91 points) had to accept third place.

Since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in January 2023, he has not won the Asian Footballer of the Year award. In the past three years, his position in the voting has been third in 2023 and fourth the following year.

In this year's vote, superstar Cristiano Ronaldo continued to rank third with 8.89% of the votes, despite scoring 25 goals in the Saudi Pro League last season.

Despite turning 40, CR7 still maintains impressive form and is an indispensable pillar of the national team, contributing greatly to helping Portugal defeat Spain on penalties to win the Nations League championship in June.

Meanwhile, with his 10th Asian Footballer of the Year award, Son Heung Min has firmly cemented his status as an Asian legend, becoming the only player to achieve this extraordinary feat.

The 33-year-old star ended his 10-year journey with Tottenham with the first Europa League title of his club career, before moving to Los Angeles FC (USA).

Son Heung Min won 14.26% of the votes, scored 10 goals in 46 matches in his final season with the "Roosters", and made a great contribution to helping the Korean team win a ticket to the 11th consecutive World Cup in North America next year.
