Sharing with the press, Prof. Dr. Andreas Stoffers - Country Director of the Friedrich Naumann Institute (FNF) in Vietnam, once commented that in early 2022, people in the country as well as the international community outside of Vietnam were eagerly waiting to see whether Vietnam could continue its success story and recover strongly in the first year after Covid-19. Up to now, according to Mr. Andreas Stoffers, Vietnam has been fundamentally successful.
Expert Andreas Stoffers assesses Vietnam's development prospects as positive in the medium and long term. In the short term, there may be challenges in economic policy in 2023, mainly related to the unstable global situation.
A solid basis for Vietnam's economic optimism in 2023 is its clear commitments to free trade, investment protection, market economy and integration into international value chains, along with healthy public finances and prudent monetary policies.
Ms. Ramla Khalidi - Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam also commented that no other country in the region has the prospect of improving as quickly as Vietnam. Although higher energy prices have led to higher domestic prices, inflation has remained at a lower level, thanks to stable prices of food and other essential goods.
According to Ms. Ramla Khalid, Vietnam’s growth prospects depend largely on the development of a deep, liquid and well-managed domestic market for bank credit, bonds and equities. Businesses need access to long-term domestic finance to upgrade their capacity, technology and develop new products and services for domestic and export markets.
Sharing the same view on opportunities and challenges for Vietnam, Mr. Andrew Jeffries - Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Vietnam said that 2023 will still be a challenging year for Vietnam's economy. However, he still believes that with a solid macro foundation, political stability and the efforts of the Vietnamese Government and businesses, Vietnam will continue to maintain its position as one of the countries with the highest growth rate in the region as well as globally in 2023.
Vietnam’s development prospects are also highly appreciated by ASEAN officials and experts. ASEAN Secretary General Kao Kim Hourn acknowledged Vietnam’s rapid “transformation” and many outstanding development achievements in recent years. With a population of about 100 million, ranking third among ASEAN countries in terms of population size, the S-shaped country is one of the ASEAN countries that attracts a lot of attention in the fields of investment, tourism and trade exchange.
Chairman of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) and Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arsjad Rasjid assessed that Vietnam has made positive contributions to the implementation of the economic priorities of the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023.
According to Mr. Arsjad Rasjid, Vietnam plays an important role in promoting trade and investment within and outside the region. Vietnam's hosting of the upcoming ASEAN Wind Energy Event 2023 is a significant contribution to the region's renewable energy goals.
