Walker is no longer in manager Pep Guardiola's plans. |
According to The Guardian , despite having been very happy with life in Italy and not wanting to return to England, Walker still agreed to join Everton because AC Milan did not want to activate the buyout clause.
Walker joined AC Milan on loan in the January 2025 transfer window, with an option to buy for €5 million (equivalent to £4.17 million). However, with Milan's recent decline and their inability to qualify for European competition next season, the club's finances have been severely impacted.
AC Milan were unable to keep Walker, forcing the player to look for a new club. Everton then stepped in and successfully persuaded Walker. The England defender agreed to sign a one-year contract with Everton.
The final details of the deal are still being negotiated between Everton and Man City. The two clubs have yet to agree on whether this will be a permanent transfer or just a 12-month loan agreement.
Previously, Fulham had also expressed interest in the 35-year-old player but were unable to meet his salary demands. Walker recently had a short trip to New York before spending two weeks in Jamaica.
During his eight years at Man City, Walker won 17 major titles, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, and one Champions League. Despite having one year left on his contract at Etihad, Walker was left out of the Man City squad for the Club World Cup and is no longer in manager Pep Guardiola's plans.
