On October 16, when searching for information on "Ministry of Education and Training" on Google search engine, the electronic information portal of the Ministry of Education and Training showed a strange display name, along with categories such as "Acca in Nepal", "Kathmandu casino"...
However, clicking on all of the above links leads to the official website of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Faced with the above situation, many people wonder whether the ministry's official website is having any worrying problems?
Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a representative of the Department of Science , Technology and Information, Ministry of Education and Training said that the official website of the ministry is still operating normally, and there is no way the ministry has lost control of the website.
According to a representative of the Department of Science, Technology and Information, the "strange" domain names only appear when searching on Google. Relevant units are working to fix this.
Talking to Tuoi Tre Online , cyber security expert Ngo Minh Hieu (Hieu PC) said that hackers usually insert malicious code into websites of ministries, departments, and schools with the suffixes "gov.vn" and "edu.vn".
The reason why websites with the suffix gov.vn or edu.vn are often prioritized by Google to display results at the top of the page is that criminals will focus on finding vulnerabilities on websites and servers to exploit.
Most of the time, malware injections only show up on Google. For example, when searching on Google for information related to the Ministry of Education and Training, new malicious links appear. If users click on the link, it can lead to a gambling website or a self-created website.
In case the user clicks on a "strange" link that still leads to the ministry's homepage, it may be because the subject has removed the malware from the link, or because the managing unit has handled this problem.
According to Mr. Hieu, the websites of ministries and agencies being infected with malware will greatly affect their reputation, cause confusion, and lead users to fraudulent and gambling links.
"These malicious codes only appear on Google. If you paste the link with the malicious code into other browsers like Safari, it will not appear, it will report that the page does not exist, or it will redirect to the ministry/school's homepage," said Mr. Hieu.
