The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Russia, Mr. Batyr Berdyklychev, recently denied information about the appearance of a strange virus causing symptoms of coughing up blood in this country.

According to TASS news agency, Mr. Berdyklychev confirmed that recent suspected cases of strange virus infection in Russia were actually infections with mycoplasma pneumonia bacteria that once circulated in the country.

"After investigation, including confirmation of laboratory results, we have established that the five cases reported in Moscow and the Moscow region are pneumonia caused by mycoplasma infection. This is not a new virus, so the increase in cases is unlikely to pose an epidemiological risk," he stressed.

The WHO representative in Moscow also said that the agency has asked Russian authorities to provide relevant data in response to information about patients with symptoms of coughing up blood.

According to the official, WHO has effectively cooperated with the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Protection and Welfare, affirming that the country has built a reliable epidemiological surveillance system.

Previously, information spread in Russia that an unknown virus had appeared in the country, with symptoms including coughing up blood and high fever, but COVID-19 and flu tests were both negative.

According to the information spread, initially, people infected with this strange virus will feel tired and have body aches. A few days later, their health condition will deteriorate rapidly, they can have a fever as high as 39 degrees Celsius, be bedridden and cough up blood.

Information about the strange virus spread in the context of Mr. Berdyklychev warning of a high risk of a new pandemic caused by mutated microorganisms, while emphasizing the importance of preparation work at the national and international levels./.
