Xabi Alonso believes Rudiger is being racist. |
In the early hours of June 23rd, Real Madrid defeated Pachuca 3-1 in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ despite being down to ten men from the 7th minute. Following the victory, coach Alonso expressed his displeasure regarding the late-match commotion, in which some Pachuca players were accused of racist remarks towards Antonio Rudiger.
Alonso revealed: “Rudiger told us about the incident (racism). FIFA is investigating it. We trust our player. Such behavior is unacceptable.”
According to Marca , Real Madrid's management believes that Rudiger's accusations against the Pachuca player are true and are ready to pursue the lawsuit to the end.
Real Madrid faced difficulties right from the start of the match against Pachuca. Less than 10 minutes into the game, during a quick counter-attack by Pachuca, Salomon Rondon was fouled by Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio while facing the goalkeeper.
The referee didn't hesitate to show a direct red card, leaving Real Madrid playing with ten men. When asked about Asencio's mistake in the match, Alonso frankly replied: "Asencio's mistake could have been avoided. Fortunately, the team was able to adapt to that situation (the red card). We were prepared to play with 10 men, and then we had to understand the situations that arose during the match."
Despite playing with 10 men, Real Madrid surprisingly opened the scoring when Jude Bellingham finished with a left-footed shot into the far corner in the 35th minute. Just before halftime, young Arda Guler doubled the lead after a fluid combination on the right wing with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Gonzalo Garcia.
Federico Valverde extended Real Madrid's lead to 3-0 in the 70th minute, before Pachuca could only manage a consolation goal in the final minutes from Elias Montiel. This victory brings Real Madrid closer to the knockout round with 4 points after 2 matches, temporarily leading Group H.
