Specifically, on the morning of October 21, people discovered the body of a dolphin (local fishermen often call it Whale) about 2 meters long, weighing about 150 kg washed ashore at Nhat Le beach (section passing through Dong Thuan ward, Quang Tri province).

Because the fish carcasses had begun to decompose, the Border Guard and local people held a ceremony according to the fishermen's traditional beliefs; then buried them to ensure environmental hygiene.

According to the beliefs of coastal fishermen, dolphins are sacred animals, considered to bring luck and protection to seafarers. In many coastal areas, people have built temples to worship the “Mr. Whale”.
