Verifying 2 fishing boats and 11 fishermen arrested by Thailand

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên22/03/2024

On the evening of March 22, Mr. Pham Van Muoi, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu , said that the department had implemented Official Dispatch No. 127, dated February 15, of the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand on verification, serving the work of protecting citizens and handling fishermen who violated the law. At the same time, implementing Official Dispatch No. 833, dated March 18, of the Office of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province on verification of 2 fishing boats and 11 fishermen arrested by Thailand.

Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu has directed the Fisheries Sub-Department to coordinate with the Border Guard Command of Bac Lieu province and relevant agencies to investigate and verify 2 fishing boats and 11 fishermen arrested by Thailand; including 2 suspected fishermen in Bac Lieu.

Through verification on the fishing vessel management software system of the Department of Fisheries, information on the two fishing vessels with registration numbers BL-9243 and BL-1242 was not registered on the fishing vessel management system. Images of fishing vessel BL-1242 had painted over the vessel number and faked the fishing vessel license plate of Bac Lieu province to illegally exploit aquatic resources.

At the same time, the functional sector of Bac Lieu province also verified the information through the border control stations of Ganh Hao, Cai Cung, Chua Phat, Nha Mat. The result was that there were no fishing boats as shown in the image and registration number above entering and leaving the ports in Bac Lieu province.

According to the dispatch of the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand, on fishing boat BL-9243 there were 2 fishermen: Le Van Dung (residing in Gia Rai Town, Bac Lieu) and Nguyen Duc Be (residing in Phuoc Long District, Bac Lieu).

However, the identity of fisherman Le Van Dung according to the information provided by the Embassy and the actual verification results are incorrect. Through coordination and verification, fisherman Le Van Dung's real name is Le Quang Vinh (38 years old) which matches the Thai name provided by the Thai authorities. On the other hand, comparing the images provided by the authorities and the discussion with relatives basically matches.

At the same time, at Hamlet 12, Lang Tron Ward, Gia Rai Town, the working group verified and worked with the family of fisherman Le Quang Vinh to verify the information. The family said that fisherman Vinh is from Tran Van Thoi District ( Ca Mau ), and permanently resides in Gia Rai Town (Bac Lieu). Since 2010, Vinh and his family left the locality to live in Ho Chi Minh City.

Through discussion with Vinh's biological mother, it is known that on Lunar New Year 2024, Vinh returned to his hometown Ca Mau to celebrate Tet. After that, Vinh informed his biological mother that he was working for a fishing boat but did not know the name and address of the boat owner.

Fisherman Nguyen Duc Be no longer resides in the locality and has moved to Song Doc Town, Tran Van Thoi District (Ca Mau) to live for more than 4 years.
