On July 18, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hoa, Chairwoman of Quy Nhon Nam Ward People's Committee ( Gia Lai Province), said that she had directed the relevant agencies to inspect the business activities and food safety and hygiene at Hoa Lu 2 Restaurant, and at the same time verify information about the appearance of cockroaches in the food.
According to Ms. Hoa, on the afternoon of July 17, after receiving information about cockroaches in food, the inspection team arrived but the restaurant owner, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phuc, was not present. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Tram, manager of Hoa Lu 2 Restaurant, was authorized to work with the inspection team.

Through investigation, Ms. Tram confirmed that the incident of the five-fruit dish with cockroaches occurred at the restaurant on the evening of July 16, as reported online. Ms. Tram was also the person who directly handled the incident.
“A group of 8 guests ate in room number 3 of the restaurant, with staff assigned to serve. However, when the guests discovered a cockroach in the dish of five fruits with fish sauce, the staff was not present in the room. After receiving the feedback, I went in to check and found the cockroach on the dining table, so I apologized to the guests, did not charge them for the dish, and the guests accepted,” Ms. Tram explained.
On behalf of the restaurant, Ms. Tram apologized to the customers and pledged to strengthen control over the entire service process to ensure food hygiene and safety.
Through inspection of the kitchen area, the inspection team discovered that the food storage area did not meet the requirements to prevent cross-contamination between raw and cooked food; the drainage was open, smelly, and unsanitary; and the food sample logbook was not complete according to regulations.
From the initial inspection results, the leader of the Department of Culture and Society of Quy Nhon Nam Ward said that they will continue to verify the incident of cockroaches being found in food served to customers at Hoa Lu 2 Restaurant and handle it appropriately as soon as the results are available.
