Coach Kim Sang Sik said about this decision: “Tran Thanh Trung is a player with good technique and spirit. He will develop even better in the future. I did not choose him for this tournament, but Thanh Trung can wear the Vietnamese team shirt in the next tournaments.”
"I believe that the Vietnam U23 team has the motivation to compete well in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers," coach Kim Sang Sik added.
In the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, the Vietnam U23 team is in Group C, along with the Bangladesh U23, Singapore U23 and Yemen U23 teams. This group match will take place in Viet Tri ( Phu Tho ), from September 3 to September 9.

Before this match, Coach Kim Sang Sik shared: “U23 Vietnam just won the U23 Southeast Asian Championship, that is the next motivation for the U23 Vietnam team in this tournament. I have studied the opponents of U23 Vietnam in Group C”.
“Initially, I think U23 Yemen is the strongest team. However, we are confident that we will play well to achieve the best results,” coach Kim Sang Sik affirmed.
Regarding our opponents in Group C, Coach Firdaus Kassim (U23 Singapore) said: “U23 Vietnam is a team with Asian level, not just Southeast Asia. Competing with the U23 Vietnam team in the coming days is an opportunity for us to learn from experience.”
Coach Amin Al Suneini (U23 Yemen) said: “The U23 Yemen squad has a combination of experience and youth. We will calculate each match in this tournament. I think every opponent is difficult.”
“We gathered in July with 34 players. Then I screened and finalized the list down to 23 players as it is now,” added coach Amin Al Suneini.
