Building K Hospital as a leading oncology facility, meeting international standards in cancer examination and treatment

On the afternoon of February 24, K Hospital held a rally to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2025). Comrade Lai Xuan Mon, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission attended and congratulated the hospital on its successes.

According to Professor, Dr. Le Van Quang, Director of K Hospital, President Ho Chi Minh's teachings have become the motto and reason for living of those working in the medical field. 70 years of following Uncle Ho's teachings, generations of doctors at K Hospital have united, constantly studying to improve their professional qualifications; striving, practicing and cultivating ethics, worthy of the honor and pride that the whole society has honored. In recent years, the hospital has had changes in the scale of facilities, the medical staff has been supplemented in quantity, improved in quality, professional qualifications, skills, and the quality of medical examination and treatment has been increasingly improved.

From the initial facility with only 120 beds and 110 staff, up to now, K Hospital has 3 modern and spacious facilities, with a scale of 2,400 beds and more than 1,900 staff, civil servants and workers. The hospital has also invested in many modern medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment such as: multi-row CT, high-force MRI, PET/CT, advanced endoscopy system, gene sequencing test, single and multi-energy accelerator radiotherapy system and modern Gamma knife radiosurgery system, allowing the implementation of advanced techniques such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT).... The system of machinery serving medical examination and treatment at K Hospital is not inferior to that of developed countries.

Along with that, the hospital focuses on applying and implementing scientific and technological advances, developing high technology, creating spearhead strengths such as minimally invasive interventions, notably 3D endoscopic surgery, Robots... The hospital always updates new treatment regimens, especially focusing on individualizing treatment according to tumor biological characteristics at the molecular level with targeted therapy and immunotherapy. Thereby affirming the position, reputation and brand of the hospital, at the same time attracting many domestic and foreign patients to come for treatment and there are many fairy tales about saving patients' lives that have been performed at K Hospital.

Along with that, the Hospital has continuously promoted training and technology transfer to lower-level facilities, built a cancer prevention and control network in 3 regions (including 11 specialized hospitals, 72 centers, departments, and oncology units, of which 43 units in 23 provinces and cities are directly directed) and as a result, local treatment facilities have met most of the needs for cancer examination and treatment and the rate of referral has decreased significantly.

The hospital also always focuses on promoting international cooperation. Up to now, there have been 50 cancer facilities, units and organizations from 33 countries that have cooperated with the hospital in all areas of prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, training and cancer research. Each treatment regimen at K Hospital always bears the mark of domestic and international scientific research, learning and updating from regional and international conferences. Hundreds of doctors, pharmacists, nurses and technicians have received short and long-term training...

Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Lai Xuan Mon congratulated the achievements and praised the entire team of doctors, medical staff and workers of the Hospital for their achievements in recent years. Imbued with the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh "a good doctor must be like a mother", generations of doctors of K Hospital have constantly strived to be good at their profession and responsible for their profession.

Along with the strong development in both quantity and quality of the medical staff, K Hospital has continuously developed in terms of expertise to become the leading specialized hospital in the country and affirmed its prestigious position internationally in cancer prevention and control. With the spirit of putting people's health and lives first, first of all, the hospital has overcome obstacles and challenges, steadfastly fulfilling its mission to wholeheartedly "treat and save people",... Currently, the rate of curing some cancers at K Hospital is on par with advanced countries in the world.

In addition to the increasingly improved quality of medical examination and treatment, the Hospital is a working, research, learning environment, and practice facility for medical schools; extensive and effective international cooperation with many large medical units in the world has created conditions for the Hospital to continuously develop specialized human resources. The Hospital has proactively advised, built, and completed many oncology hospitals in provinces and cities, forming a national cancer prevention network, contributing to reducing overload for upper-level hospitals, helping people enjoy the best medical services, high expertise right in the locality, reducing treatment costs, reducing the burden of disease, creating trust and peace of mind for patients.

Comrade Lai Xuan Mon suggested that the medical staff of K Hospital continue to promote its glorious tradition, seize opportunities, overcome challenges, continue to innovate strongly, comprehensively and synchronously, strive to become a model, professional hospital, leading Vietnam and meeting international standards, further improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, and taking care of people's health.

To do that well, the Party Committee, Board of Directors, professors, doctors and medical staff of K Hospital put humanity, compassion, and dedication above all; unite, be creative, overcome all difficulties, build a team of staff with strong political will, good professional qualifications, approaching international standards, and exemplary moral qualities. Pay attention to training and fostering successors, ensuring the development requirements of the Hospital, worthy of being the leading oncology facility, meeting international standards in cancer examination, treatment and prevention.

Continuously improve the overall quality of expertise in all aspects, taking the patient as the center; closely combine treatment with scientific research and training, and strengthen line management. Expand international cooperation, promote research and application of scientific and technological advances, advanced technology in diagnosis and treatment in the spirit of Resolution No. 57, dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation...
