"Building exemplary prosecutors who do not fall into corruption and do not cover up criminals"

(QNO) - That was the direction of the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation - Le Van Dung at the conference on deploying the work in 2024 of the People's Procuracy of Quang Nam province held this afternoon, January 5.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung - Member of the Party Executive Committee, Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy, Mr. Pham Van Can - Chief Justice of the High-level People's Procuracy in Da Nang , Mr. Phan Thai Binh - Member of the Standing Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee, Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee and many delegates attended the conference.

Efforts in the midst of hardship

Reporting at the conference, the representative of the Provincial People's Procuracy said that in 2023, the security and political situation in the province was basically guaranteed; the fight against crime, corruption and negativity was promoted. However, the crime situation detected and prosecuted by the authorities increased in all areas, of which there was a significant increase in property crimes and drug crimes.

The Provincial People's Procuracy has exercised its right to prosecute and prosecute 1,264 new cases/2,280 defendants, an increase of 160 cases/514 defendants (an increase of 14.5% in the number of cases and 29% in the number of defendants).

In 2023, the crime situation, civil disputes and administrative complaints increased by 42% compared to the same period in 2022 (more than 6,700 cases), resulting in an increase in the number of cases handled by the Procuracy. The rate of case settlement by the Procuracy increased by 0.2%; the quality of criminal protests increased by 0.7%; the number of typical cases increased by 45.5%. Timely indictment, investigation, prosecution, and trial of criminal cases; no cases of criminal detention followed by administrative handling; no cases of suspension of investigation because the defendant did not commit a crime, the Procuracy prosecuted and the Court declared him not guilty.

The work of supervising other judicial activities was focused on and had positive changes. The number of direct inspections increased by 22.4%; the quality of civil, administrative, and commercial protests exceeded the industry target by 30.3%; the number of recommendations to remedy violations and prevent violations increased by 26.4% compared to the same period in 2022.

Party building and rectification is the core

The general assessment shows that the work of building the industry continues to be innovated in most areas of work. The Provincial People's Procuracy has paid attention, promptly and closely in management and direction, helping the activities of the Quang Nam Procuracy to be smooth and effective.

It is forecasted that in 2024, the economic situation has not yet recovered, leading to the crime situation in the country as well as in the province continuing to increase and become more complicated.

Some types of crimes are on the rise, such as fraud, usury in civil transactions, theft, drug crimes, crimes involving high technology, economic crimes, corruption, etc., posing many challenges.

Speaking at the conference, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Van Dung acknowledged that the staff of the Quang Nam Procuracy had overcome difficulties, fulfilled their tasks well, and had many creative ways of working in the sector. They had effectively and synchronously implemented measures to prevent wrongful convictions and not let criminals escape.

The Provincial People's Procuracy has proactively coordinated to organize many inter-sectoral conferences, advised the Provincial Party Standing Committee to strengthen leadership and direction in receiving and handling denunciations and crime reports and recommending prosecution and resolution of criminal cases, strictly handling many complicated cases that have received public attention.

Entering 2024, comrade Le Van Dung requested that the entire industry must do a good job in Party building and rectification, and build a truly clean and strong prosecution industry. This is the top priority task.

Each officer must maintain his/her qualities while performing his/her duties. At the same time, proactively coordinate to promptly resolve criminal cases on corruption, economics, and complicated, long-standing cases.

The Procuracy needs to coordinate with agencies and localities to grasp the situation, advise on cases that are monitored and directed by the Provincial Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption, and advise Party committees to promptly handle complicated cases, preventing hot spots from occurring.

Comrade Le Van Dung requested the entire Quang Nam Procuracy to strengthen internal inspection and supervision, promptly detect and correct shortcomings and violations. Build exemplary procuracy officials in ethics and lifestyle, not succumbing to temptations and negativity, not protecting, covering up, or condoning criminals.

"Procuratorate officials must be trusted by the Party and loved by the people. The prestige of the judiciary in general and the procuracy in particular is also the prestige of the Party, multiplying the trust of the people" - Comrade Le Van Dung emphasized.
