Over 95 years of establishment and development, the Vietnam Women's Union has affirmed its role as a broad socio -political organization of Vietnamese women, closely associated with the revolutionary cause of the nation. The Union has gathered, united, and mobilized millions of members to actively participate in patriotic movements, contributing to the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, the resistance wars to protect the Fatherland, gain independence, as well as in the cause of building and developing the country today.

From the women who “plowed with one hand and shot with one hand” in the two resistance wars to the “steel roses” on the economic, scientific, educational and diplomatic fronts today, generations of Vietnamese women have been writing a brilliant epic about patriotism, sacrifice and aspiration to rise up. Regardless of the period, Vietnamese women are still the symbol of bravery, love and silent dedication, contributing to the beautiful appearance of the country.

Over the past time, the Vietnam Women's Union has always promoted its role as a representative to protect the legitimate rights and interests of women, striving for the advancement of women and gender equality, becoming a reliable support for all classes of Vietnamese women. Currently, the Union has nearly 20 million members, demonstrating the increasingly enhanced position of women in political, economic and social life...

Comrade Nguyen Thi Tuyen, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President of the Vietnam Women's Union, talked with cadres, members and women in Tan Trao commune (Tuyen Quang province), the Women's Union of Hung Yen province and Hai Phong city (formerly Hai Duong).

The Vietnam Women's Union has always been a support, accompaniment and support for women in their journey of starting a business and developing the economy, contributing to enhancing the position and role of women in modern life.

The organization of the Association has been improved according to the two-level local government model, gender equality activities have been promoted, helping Vietnam rise 13 places on the United Nations' global gender equality rankings compared to 2020 (ranked 74/146 countries in 2025). In addition, people's foreign affairs activities have also been expanded, contributing to enhancing the position and role of Vietnamese women in the international arena... Those steps forward are not just numbers, but the crystallization of the intelligence, determination and aspirations of millions of Vietnamese women, who are asserting themselves every day, constantly learning, creating, devoting themselves and contributing to a fairer, more civilized and happier society.

The process of innovation and international integration has opened up great opportunities for the development of the Association. The Association constantly innovates its content and methods of operation, improving the quality of the women's movement, meeting the requirements of the period of industrialization, modernization and digital transformation. On that journey, the image of Vietnamese women emerges as confident, dynamic, brave and compassionate, ready to adapt to the new era, both preserving good traditional values ​​and proactively seizing opportunities to affirm their role in the family, community and nation.

With its great contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, the Vietnam Women's Union has been recognized by the Party and the State and awarded many noble titles and awards such as: Twice awarded the Gold Star Order; Twice awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order; Three times awarded the First Class Independence Order; Once awarded the Second Class Independence Order; Once awarded the Third Class Independence Order and five times awarded the Labor Order of various classes.

In particular, the Vietnam Women's Union is happy and proud that, on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the Union's glorious tradition, the Vietnam Women's Union is honored to be awarded the First Class Labor Medal, a noble award that the Party and State bestowed on the Vietnam Women's Union for the period 2020 - 2025. This is a great encouragement, motivation, adding confidence and spirit for Vietnamese women and the Union to continue to strive, build and develop in the coming time.

95 years, a proud historical journey, a journey of aspiration and dedication. From the tradition of “Heroic - Indomitable - Loyal - Responsible” to the image of a woman “Confident - Self-respecting - Loyal - Responsible” today, the Vietnam Women's Union is continuing to write a new page of history, a page of faith, intelligence and aspiration of Vietnamese women in the digital age, global integration.

Throughout the history of building and developing the country, regardless of the circumstances, with their mettle, determination, compassion, kindness, sacrifice and efforts to rise up, Vietnamese women of all walks of life have promoted the tradition of solidarity and creativity in studying, working and working; made many great contributions, achieved many outstanding achievements in various fields, were the core in preserving and promoting cultural values, building happy families; and contributed worthily to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Over the 13 terms of the Congress, the emulation movements of Vietnamese women have always been closely linked to the revolutionary tasks and requirements of the country, from the emulation movement "Women learn to plow", the movement "Three responsibilities" (later renamed by Uncle Ho to "Three responsibilities") to movements in the renovation period such as "New women build and protect the Fatherland" (1978), "Raising good children, contributing to reducing malnutrition and school dropouts" (term 1987 - 1992), "Day of savings for poor women" (term 1992 - 1997), "Women help each other with family economy" (term 1992 - 1997), "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean" (2010 to present); “Training moral qualities: self-confidence, self-respect, honesty, and responsibility” (term 2017 - 2022), “Women actively study, work creatively, and build happy families” (from 2002 to 2022).

In each historical period, patriotic emulation movements of Vietnamese women have always been associated with the cause of national construction and development, contributing to affirming and enhancing the position of women in society.

The movements have been continuously inherited, innovated and have had a deep and strong influence in the social community. Each emulation movement selected at each stage has had a clear transformational impact on the lives of women and the community, arousing the spirit of patriotism and the desire to contribute of all classes of Vietnamese women, attracting the support of Party committees, authorities at all levels and the whole society. Many models and typical examples of exemplary women have been replicated, creating positive effects in society.

Continuing the tradition of "Heroic, Indomitable, Loyal, and Responsible", Vietnamese women are dynamic, united, and creative, increasingly affirming their role and position in sustainable development and international integration, ready to join the nation in entering the era of building a strong, prosperous, and happy Vietnam.

In the period of 2020 - 2025, the Vietnam Women's Union always focuses on innovating the content and methods of operation, improving the effectiveness of patriotic emulation movements. The movements have become an important driving force to promote innovation, improve the capacity of the Union's staff, strengthen the spirit of solidarity, arouse the will to strive, the spirit of creativity and the aspiration for comprehensive development of members and women. At the same time, the Union has honored and promoted typical advanced collectives and individuals, thereby affirming the role and position of the Union in the cause of socio-economic development and the general emulation movement of the whole country.

Launched at the 13th National Women's Congress (March 2022), the emulation movement "Building Vietnamese Women of the New Era" with four criteria: Having knowledge, having morality, having health, having responsibility for oneself, family, society and country associated with studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style has now become a typical highlight, responded to and implemented by a large number of cadres, members, women and people.

The movement has inherited and promoted the achievements of past emulation movements, in line with the requirements of the times, promoting the potential, creativity and mastery role of women of all classes in the context of integration and digital transformation; aiming at substantial and sustainable emulation, suitable for each group of women and local characteristics.

Along with the emulation movement, programs with profound humanitarian significance such as "Accompanying Women in the Borderlands", "Godmother", supporting "Women Start-ups"... have spread strongly, demonstrating the spirit of humanity and social responsibility of Vietnamese Women, with content associated with the requirements of the new era such as developing green economy, digital transformation, environmental protection, building happy, civilized families and international integration.

With 95 years of glorious tradition, the Vietnam Women's Union is entering a new stage of development, a stage of innovation, creativity and integration. Each emulation movement is not only a call to action, but also a bridge connecting millions of women's hearts towards the goal of "For a strong, prosperous and happy Vietnam".

In that context, Vietnamese women need to be more proactive in learning, practicing, mastering knowledge and technology; boldly starting a business, applying science and technology, digital transformation and artificial intelligence in production, business and economic development. Every Vietnamese woman today is a warm fire in the family, a source of energy spreading the aspiration for a prosperous, globally integrated, and sustainably developed Vietnam - worthy of the praise of beloved Uncle Ho: "The beautiful landscape of Vietnam is woven and embroidered by our women, young and old, to become more beautiful and brilliant".

Since 2010, the campaign "Building a family of 5 no's and 3 clean's" has become a movement with strong influence, becoming a driving force to spread civilized lifestyle in every home, every residential area, contributing to creating clear changes in family and community life. The campaign does not stop at propaganda and mobilization but has created clear changes in behavior, forming a lifestyle of "self-awareness - self-management - self-change", concretized by tens of thousands of models, projects, practical tasks, suitable to the conditions of each locality and each region.

After nearly 15 years of implementation, the movement has achieved many outstanding results, improving the material and spiritual life of women, while clearly affirming the role, position and practical contributions of the Women's Union in the cause of economic and social development of the country. From practice, many creative models have been born and spread strongly such as "Women's Association for safety for women and children", "Self-managed Women's Group", "Women's Group for 3 savings: electricity, water, gas", "Women's flower route", "Women living green", "Turning waste into money"..., supporting 890,000 households to escape poverty, supporting the construction of more than 13,500 charity homes, 418,309 families achieving "5 no, 3 clean", 26,000 family models "5 yes, 3 clean", building 550,000 hygienic toilets, 1 million families accessing water.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Tuyen presented gifts to disadvantaged students at Thanh My Secondary School (Lam Dong province); presented gifts to orphans and children in special circumstances at Chiem Hoa school (Tuyen Quang province) and awarded certificates of merit to students at the "Giving wings to children's dreams" festival.

The movement has affirmed the core position of the Vietnam Women's Union in socio-economic development, environmental protection and preservation of Vietnamese family values. Women are not only beneficiaries but have become active subjects, participating in the implementation of more than 18,000 practical works and projects, contributing to the completion of 11/19 new rural criteria. The movement has not only changed the appearance of the countryside, but also fostered cultural, ethical and humane values, a solid foundation for Vietnamese family happiness.

Entering a new phase with many opportunities and challenges, the country promotes innovation, digital transformation, green economy development, circular economy and response to climate change, closely following the direction of General Secretary To Lam, the Vietnam Women's Union determined to continue to improve quality, towards sustainable values, gradually adjusting and innovating the Movement in a practical direction: Adjusting the content from "5 no, 3 clean" to "Family of 5 yes, 3 clean", focusing on implementing the criteria of having a safe house, having a sustainable livelihood, having health, having knowledge and having a cultural lifestyle; clean house, clean kitchen and clean alley, contributing to improving the quality of life of Vietnamese families to ensure "3 safe" (safety - peace of mind - security) in accordance with the new development requirements of rural Vietnam.

 

Along with that, the implementation method of the Campaign will strongly shift to digital platform application: Strengthen multi-platform communication, digitize model guidance documents, replicate effective models; focus on activities suitable for each target group, in which priority is given to vulnerable women groups.

The Association will promote the role of monitoring and criticizing policies, proactively proposing activities that the Association will preside over in the National Target Program on New Rural Construction for the period 2026 - 2035: Campaign "Building a family of 5 good and 3 clean"; "Cultivating, preserving good values ​​and developing the Vietnamese family value system"; Project to support women in starting a business; Project to support cooperatives managed by women, creating jobs for female workers until 2030; Monitoring gender equality content to create mechanisms and resources during implementation.

The goal of the next phase is not only to promote behavioral change, but also to create an environment for women to participate, decide and enjoy more equality, thereby mastering technology, mastering the green economy and affirming the core role of women in building "prosperous, progressive, happy, civilized" families and building sustainable new rural areas.

15 years is not only a milestone of a movement, but also a journey of cultivating good values, where millions of Vietnamese women together write stories of love, responsibility and faith in life. The movement "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean", contributes to creating clean and beautiful houses, prosperous villages, building a "spiritual home" for Vietnamese women in the new era, where love, responsibility and aspiration to contribute converge.

Currently, globalization continues to be the dominant trend in all socio-economic fields, the fourth industrial revolution and new social issues continue to arise. The Party and State have issued many important resolutions, which are breakthroughs and pillars for national development in the new era; in which, the Party and State always pay deep attention to women and the activities of the Vietnam Women's Union.

At the ceremony to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Women's Union; receiving the First Class Labor Medal; the 5th Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Vietnam Women's Union, General Secretary To Lam gave a speech directing and affirming: The Party and State have always been consistent in promoting substantive gender equality, expanding opportunities for women to participate in leadership, administration, start-ups, science and technology; perfecting the system of social security policies, protecting women and children, preventing domestic violence, gender-based violence, and cyber abuse; taking care of preschool education, maternity, reproductive health; building a healthy and safe cultural environment.

In order for the Vietnam Women's Union to truly become a solid support for Vietnamese women and a strong bridge between the Party and the people, the Vietnam Women's Union affirms that it will closely follow the direction of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat and concretize the key orientations and tasks in the spirit of General Secretary To Lam at the Union's Patriotic Emulation Congress in 2025.

In particular, many of the instructions of General Secretary To Lam are very specific and can be implemented in the next term, such as: Continuing to implement the emulation movement "Building Vietnamese Women of the new era", adding the content of the emulation criteria "Patriotism - Autonomy - Courage - Humanity - Intelligence - Creativity - Responsibility - Number - Green" suitable to the new situation for each subject; upgrading the movement "Building a family of 5 no, 3 clean" to "5 no, 3 clean, 3 safe": Safety - Peace of mind - Social security or "5 yes, 3 clean towards 3 safe"; breaking through digital transformation to promote women's economy and concretizing it into the content of 2 breakthroughs in the term 2026 - 2030, including: Digital transformation to enhance women's capacity and promote women to start businesses, innovate, and get rich legitimately.

Faced with the profound changes of the era of globalization and the fourth industrial revolution, Vietnamese women not only need the courage to adapt but also need to be accompanied and supported to promote their potential and affirm their position in all areas of social life. As an organization representing women nationwide, the Vietnam Women's Union will continue to concretize the orientations and key tasks that General Secretary To Lam outlined at the 2025 Patriotic Emulation Congress; at the same time, focus on building a strong, modern, close organization and accompanying women in every stage of life, so that each member feels the real support and inspiration. Thereby, the Union will truly become a reliable support, helping Vietnamese women to be confident, courageous, creative and firmly integrated in the new era.

In recent years, the Vietnam Women's Union at all levels has implemented many systematic solutions to improve the material and spiritual life of women in ethnic minority areas. Many programs, projects and schemes providing practical support for women in ethnic minority areas have been implemented, such as: Project 8 "Promoting gender equality and solving urgent problems for women and children" under the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas (DTTS&MN), Program "Accompanying women in border areas"... have achieved many outstanding results.

After 5 years of implementation, Project 8 Phase I from 2021 - 2025 has basically completed 4 key contents. As a result, 8/9 core targets of the project have been achieved and exceeded the phase plan, of which 4/9 targets exceeded the plan, including: Community communication team (reached 115.5%), "Trusted address" (reached 231%), "Leader of change" club (reached 113%), capacity building for female ethnic minority cadres (reached 208%). The project has had a positive impact, creating a change in awareness, changing gender stereotypes, "thinking, ways of doing" of people in particularly difficult communes, villages and hamlets, contributing to localities to effectively solve a number of urgent social issues for women and children and promoting gender equality in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

The Vietnam Women's Union at all levels has implemented many practical programs and activities to join hands in action for gender equality, spreading the message of love and responsibility in the community.

Implementing the Program "Accompanying women in border areas" for the period 2021 - 2025, the total resources mobilized by the accompanying units to implement the Program reached more than 294 billion VND, helping most localities achieve and exceed 7/7 targets of the period on propaganda work, model building, activities to improve spiritual life, support livelihoods, social security; consolidate and build the Union organization, develop members, support equipment, improve capacity for grassroots Women's Union officials. 28/100 extremely difficult communes (ESPC) in the Program phase 2 reached the New Rural destination; the material and spiritual life of members and women improved. Women's Union branches and groups operated effectively, security and order in the area were ensured. Grassroots Union officials in border areas had their capacity improved, better meeting work requirements.

In the Program "Accompanying women in border areas" for the period 2021 - 2025: Support to grant 1,022 livelihood models; 19,154 women to borrow capital; organize 670 vocational training classes and courses, introduce jobs to more than 21,900 women. 100% of the Women's Unions in border communes maintain and improve the quality of groups, teams, and livelihood models. Build 2,155 cultural, artistic, physical education, and sports models, create new vitality, improve the quality of Union activities. Review, develop plans, solutions and assign branch cadres, Union groups, and exemplary core members to help 23,348 women's families meet the criteria of "5 no 3 clean", including many households escaping poverty according to multidimensional criteria (typically Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Dak Lak...). Support equipment for grassroots association activities: Support 59 community bookcases, border bookcases, 107 sets of computers/printers, tablets... organize 10,930 communication sessions, 1.4 million people; 100% of the Association's grassroots units meet the target of "each Association's grassroots unit organizes at least 2 communication activities annually".

Along with that, 1,390 civil works, 834 charity houses, border houses were awarded; over 186 thousand gifts, over 12 thousand scholarships for women and poor students with good academic performance, and those in difficult circumstances; coordinated medical examination and treatment for about 130 thousand people... Thereby contributing to encouraging and improving the material and spiritual life of women, children and ethnic minorities in border areas; practically contributing to speeding up the implementation progress of the National Target Program on new rural construction in border areas.

In the process of implementing activities to support and improve the material and spiritual life of women in ethnic minority areas, the Association at all levels has had many flexible and creative ways of doing things, knowing how to promote the advantage of understanding the locality, customs, religions and indigenous culture. In particular, the Association has cleverly promoted the role and prestige of village elders, village chiefs, religious dignitaries and typical individuals to create consensus, thereby encouraging women in ethnic minority areas, mountainous areas, border areas, islands, and places with many difficulties to actively participate in the Association's programs and movements.

In the coming time, the Vietnam Women's Union will continue to advise on policies and implement key programs, projects and schemes towards promoting gender equality through supporting women in starting businesses associated with digital transformation, green transformation, sustainable development, inclusive business, application of science and technology and innovation.

The “Leaders of Change” Club (under Project 8 “Achieving gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children”) contributes to equipping students and children with knowledge and skills on gender equality, preventing and protecting children from the risk of abuse.

Specifically, the Vietnam Women's Union will continue to effectively implement the Project to support women in starting businesses for the period 2026 - 2035; the Project "Supporting cooperatives managed by women, creating jobs for female workers by 2030"; mobilizing support for women to participate in developing collective economic types, developing digital agricultural economic models, smart agriculture, green agriculture, circular agriculture; supporting trade promotion, expanding consumer markets; strengthening quality, establishing new cooperatives and cooperative groups managed by women.

In addition, the Association will organize activities to raise awareness among women about policies and models of multidimensional poverty reduction, propagate and mobilize women to participate in developing livelihood models suitable to local conditions and development orientations, prioritize support for poor and near-poor women, ethnic minority women in remote areas, areas at risk of natural disasters, and areas of particular difficulty, proactively propose and implement activities to create jobs, provide counseling and career guidance for women; prioritize short-term, low-cost, easy-to-implement models...

At the same time, support women, women-owned enterprises, and cooperatives managed by women to access capital and credit sources; organize financial education activities for women appropriate to each target group, prioritizing poor women, ethnic minority women, and women in remote areas; develop microfinance organizations, microfinance programs and projects in a professional, effective, and sustainable manner.
