Life is difficult, but Ms. Dao always tries to make sure her children can go to school.
Turn the conical hat into a family support
Her small stature and unfit legs due to a congenital disability have made Ms. Dao's life full of disadvantages. As a child, she endured curious looks and unintentional teasing from her friends. "When I was young, I often felt inferior, many nights I cried because I thought I was not as good as anyone else" - she choked up remembering.
The pain was compounded when, while pregnant with her first child, her husband left her, leaving her alone with many difficulties. Instead of giving up, she told herself: “If I don’t try, who will take care of me and my family?” That sentence became the motivation for her to keep going, determined not to let herself become a burden.
The path she chose was making conical hats - a job that requires dexterity, patience and perseverance. Each hat is shaped by a meticulous process with needles, threads and leaves. The income of 1.5-2 million VND per month is not much, but for her, it is a happiness to take care of her elderly mother's medicine and raise her children to study.
Her hands are thin and calloused from holding needles every day, her eyes are dark from staying up late to make a few more hats. “It’s hard, but I can still make money and take care of my mother and children, that’s enough for me,” Ms. Dao confided.
Maternal love - the driving force to overcome fate
This year, her mother is 70 years old, has suffered from heart disease for more than ten years, and has to take medication regularly every day. Her only son, Le Phuoc Hau, has also been disabled since childhood. Difficulty in moving makes his journey to school more difficult than his friends. However, Hau is still obedient, studies well, and is loved by his teachers.
After school, Hau takes the time to go fishing, collect firewood, and help his mother with housework. “Seeing my mother work hard, I just wish I could do more to help, but because of my limited health, I can’t do much,” Hau said sadly.
The innocent words of the 9th grade boy made everyone feel sorry, and then admired the filial piety and determination of the mother and son. In the small house, although lacking in material things, the warmth of love was never lacking. Maternal love was the support and motivation for Ms. Dao to walk firmly in the midst of hardship.
Local authorities and organizations regularly care for and support her family with gifts and warm words of encouragement. For her, it is not only a practical sharing but also a spiritual motivation, helping her believe that she is not alone.
“I don’t dare dream of anything grand, I just hope to have enough health to sew a few more hats every day, have money to buy medicine for my mother, to ensure Hau’s education, and later have a stable job to take care of himself” - Ms. Dao confided.
People like Ms. Dao not only need their own efforts but also the support of society. A little care and sharing from the community will give her and her son the strength to firmly overcome difficulties and persevere on the journey ahead.
