The 2025 Ramcharger is the first full-size pickup truck with an electric drivetrain, powered by a gasoline engine.
The above reverse powertrain arrangement is nothing new, the Nissan Kicks model sold in many places also has the same arrangement, however, in the pickup segment, the 2025 Ramcharger is the first model to arrange a gasoline engine to generate electricity.
More specifically, a 3.6-liter V6 engine is used to generate electricity to power a 92 kWh battery pack.
The underfloor battery pack powers a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that produces a total of 663 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque, providing significantly more power and traction than a conventional layout.
The 3.6L V6 gasoline engine block is still located under the hood but acts as a generator.
It is important to note that there is no mechanical connection between the petrol engine and the wheels as it only acts as an electric generator.
This setup with a 70L fuel tank allows the electric truck to have an operating range of up to 690 miles (1,110km), much further than a traditional pickup truck and twice that of an electric pickup.
Furthermore, car owners will not have to worry about the distance when towing a motorhome trailer, because there are always gas stations everywhere.
The car is dubbed a "mobile power plant" and can travel more than 1,000km thanks to its generator.
The dual electric motor system on two axles helps the vehicle have a payload of 1,191kg on the bed and pull a trailer weight of 6,350kg, the largest in the segment.
Other highlights include bi-directional charging and an integrated electrical system that can power the campervan via multiple outlets in the trunk.
Ram also notes that the truck is capable of 145 kW DC fast charging, which can provide about 50 miles (80km) of range in 10 minutes of charging.
The new electric pickup truck starts at $58,000, and is available for pre-order from November 11.
