Special admission to 10th grade for female student who suffocated in car

Hai Phong An Lao DistrictEducation Department requested special admission to 10th grade for a female student who passed out while sleeping in a car when the power went out at home.

On the evening of June 1, Truong Son town, An Lao district, lost power. Ngoc Khanh, 15 years old, and her father and sister got into the car and turned on the air conditioner to sleep.

At around 3:15 a.m. on June 2, Khanh's mother went down to check on the three of them and found them unconscious, so she took them to the Kien An District General Hospital for emergency treatment. However, Khanh's older sister died. Khanh and her father were taken to Hospital 108 in Hanoi for further treatment. As a result, the female student missed the 10th grade entrance exam in Hai Phong, which took place on the morning of June 2.

The Department of Education and Training of An Lao district has guided Khanh's family to apply for special admission to grade 10.

"We propose that the Department of Education and Training allow Khanh to enter grade 10 directly at Quoc Tuan High School in the district," said Mr. Vu Ngoc Dung, Head of the District Department of Education and Training.

On the morning of June 3, a leader of the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training said he was aware of the incident. However, according to the admission regulations, this case is not eligible for special consideration.

If students wish to enter grade 10, the Department will require private schools to accept them and provide maximum financial support. If Khanh wants to study at a public school, he will have to take the exam next year.

The entrance exam for grade 10 of public high schools in Hai Phong for the 2023-2024 school year took place on June 2-3 with nearly 24,500 candidates taking the exam. The number of successful candidates is expected to be more than 20,000.

Currently, the organization of the 10th grade entrance exam is under the authority of the People's Committee of the province or city. Normally, candidates are considered for direct admission to 10th grade if they win prizes in cultural and sports competitions organized by the Ministry of Education and Training or some ministries and branches. This year, Hai Phong has 79 candidates in this category.
