Two children lack love because their parents are mentally ill.

Tran Thu Ha (2012) is a 7th grade student at Van Trung Secondary School, Bac Giang Province. Both her father and mother have mental illness. Her father is unable to work and his illness is getting worse. Her mother is always in an unconscious state and often wanders around the streets, so her maternal grandparents took her in to take care of her.

Currently, Thu Ha is living with her grandparents, father and younger brother. Grandfather Tran The Trung (1961) just had an accident so it is very difficult for him to move around. Grandmother Nguyen Thi Su (1961) has many underlying diseases such as arthritis, high cholesterol and spinal degeneration, often having to bend over, making daily activities inconvenient. Younger brother Tran The Hung (2015) is currently in 4th grade at Van Trung Primary School.

Thu Ha’s family only has 2 sao of rice fields that her grandparents cultivate together. Each sao of rice fields yields 100 kg of rice. Because of their old age, her grandparents do not work any other jobs. Their daily living expenses mainly depend on the allowance of her mentally ill parents, which is 1,500,000 VND/person/month. Thu Ha herself has always had good academic achievements, so she received a scholarship for students who overcome difficulties, worth 500,000 VND/month.

As children who understood things early, on their days off, Thu Ha and her sister often went to the market to sell tofu to earn money to pay for their studies. Ha shared that she was very afraid of having to quit school. Knowing that her family's circumstances were too difficult, she did not dare to dream too far, only hoping to continue going to school, for her parents to recover soon and for her grandparents to have more health. For her, that was the only way to keep the hope of one day being able to repay the people who sacrificed their lives for her.

Watching the clip introducing the characters made the artists extremely emotional. Actress Thu Quynh hugged Thu Ha and her sisters and cried. The actress choked up because she felt sorry for the two children who, although their parents were still by their side, still did not have complete family affection, and when they were sad, they could not confide or share with their parents.

MC Duong Hong Phuc was moved to share that even though he had told himself not to cry, he still could not hold back his tears when witnessing the situation of Thu Ha and her sisters. "They are at an age where they need to be loved and protected by their parents, yet they have to rely on each other to grow up and overcome difficulties." - the MC choked up.

Unable to hide her emotions, Thu Ha burst into tears at the recording session when sharing about her family's situation.

He was also moved to tears when listening to the simple dream of Tran The Hung - a 4th grader who wants to become a chef, just to "cook many delicious dishes for his parents", because he believes that his parents have never had a full meal. It is the mature, emotional thoughts of the children in the midst of adversity that touched the hearts of everyone present in the program.

As for singer JayKii, he expressed his admiration for the silent sacrifice of Thu Ha's grandparents. Despite their old age, they still shoulder the burden of taking care of their son who is no longer conscious and two young grandchildren. What touched JayKii the most was the understanding of Thu Ha and her sister. When asked what they wished for, they did not think about themselves but only wished for their grandparents to be healthy and their parents to recover soon so that the whole family could reunite in peace.

Parents passed away one after another, older brother put his dream aside to take care of his younger sister

A situation that made many people feel sorry in the program Vietnamese Family Home this week is Hoang Ngoc Mai (2012), a Tay ethnic, studying in grade 7 at Thai Binh Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Lang Son province. Ngoc Mai's mother passed away in 2023 due to nasopharyngeal cancer. In early 2025, her father also passed away due to liver cancer. Since then, Ngoc Mai and her brother Hoang Anh Tuan (2001) have lived as orphans, lacking both material and spiritual things.

“My mother passed away when I was in 5th grade. When I was in secondary school, the pain gradually subsided, then my father passed away. That pain repeated itself again and multiplied many times for me. God took away the people who loved me. Every time I came home from school and saw an empty house, I felt very sad and hurt. I miss my parents so much.” – Ngoc Mai said in tears.

As for Tuan, Mai’s older brother, he used to be a good student for many years, but due to circumstances, after graduating from high school, he had to drop out of school to earn money to take care of his family. First, he helped his father take care of his sick mother, then he tried to earn money to treat his father, and now he is taking care of his younger sister. Tuan said that he wanted to become a chef and open a restaurant so that those who do not have the means can still eat delicious food. However, due to difficult family circumstances, he had to take care of many things, so he had to put that dream on hold.

With no one to eat with, Ngoc Mai gradually got used to the emptiness and learned to take care of herself at the age of 13.

Currently, Tuan is working as a hired hand in Hanoi but his job is not stable. Occasionally, when he has money, he sends Ngoc Mai 100,000 - 150,000 VND for living expenses. Feeling sorry for Ngoc Mai who has no one to take care of her, the principal asked for her to study at a boarding school, the school has waived 50% of the tuition fee, the principal supports the remaining amount of 1 million VND per month. On weekends, Mai is taken home by her teachers, she cooks her own meals, eats whatever rice and food she has, and sometimes gets extra help from teachers and neighbors.

Sharing about his family, Tuan choked up and said: "I took pictures with many people, but I haven't taken any pictures with the most important person. Not having a family photo with both parents is my biggest regret . "

Ngoc Mai's brother temporarily put aside his dream of becoming a chef to work for his younger sister.

MC Duong Hong Phuc felt heartbroken when he saw Ngoc Mai and her siblings depend on each other after their parents passed away. Seeing Tuan still caring for his sister despite working far away made the male MC emotional, he burst into tears, thinking that their parents would be very proud of Tuan's understanding.

Seeing Ngoc Mai, although still young, had to force herself to grow up because her parents were no longer around. Thu Quynh emotionally expressed: “They are so young but have had to shoulder heavy responsibilities – something that even many adults would find difficult if they were in a similar situation. They have great determination and are so understanding, which makes me feel extremely sorry. But it is their efforts and attempts that make me believe that they will have a bright and successful future .

Thu Quynh sympathizes and emotionally talks about her two children.

Behind the scenes, “My Soi” Thu Quynh said that she is the mother of two young children, is emotional and quite sensitive, so she is easily moved when witnessing the difficulties of the children in the program. However, she brings a lot of positive energy to the program, wanting everyone to forget the sad atmosphere and ease the pain of the past. “I don’t want people to see me cry, but there are times when I can’t control myself, so I have to bear it. But besides that, we have to be positive and happy so that we have more energy to move forward in life,” Thu Quynh explained.

Talking about her children, Thu Quynh said she is aware that her children are still young and need the warmth of their mother, so she does not accept many programs that require long filming or long-term roles. “Many people wonder why Thu Quynh does not have a main role, the biggest reason is that I do not want to spend too much time on work. I want to spend more time with my children. If I accept main roles, have long filming sessions and spend a lot of time on set, I will be forced to be away from my children and will not have time for them,” Thu Quynh shared.

Actress Thu Quynh shared that being a mother helps her sympathize more deeply with the characters in the show.
