DTO - In recent times, the Provincial Military Command has closely coordinated with Party committees and authorities in managing and supervising the collection of bombs, mines and explosives. At the same time, it has coordinated with agencies of Military Region 9 to collect bombs and mines left over from the war to serve the tasks of socio-economic development, national defense and security, ensuring absolute safety for people and property in the locality.


Armed forces conduct the destruction of bombs and mines left over from the war.

The Provincial Military Command has directed units to strictly and seriously carry out the collection of bombs, mines and explosives left over from the war in the province, ensuring absolute safety for people and vehicles. Currently, bombs, mines and explosives left over from the war in the province are buried in quite large quantities. Dong Thap province has an area of ​​land contaminated with bombs and mines of about 76,517 hectares, accounting for 23.33% of the total land area of ​​the province. Sectors, levels, localities and functional agencies have stepped up propaganda and mobilized organizations and individuals to immediately notify the nearest military agency when discovering bombs, mines and explosives for timely collection and handling, and absolutely not to handle them on their own.

Lieutenant Colonel Ho Sy Sang - Deputy Chief of Staff of the Provincial Military Command, said: "The Party Committee of the Provincial Military Command coordinated with the Engineering Department of Military Region 9 to determine that 23% of the province's area is heavily contaminated with bombs and mines, mainly in the districts of Thap Muoi, Chau Thanh, and Tam Nong. At the same time, we coordinated with departments, branches, and sectors to propagate the prevention of accidents caused by bombs and mines left over from the war for people to grasp and avoid. Through propaganda, the majority of people have raised their awareness of the harmful effects of bombs and mines, creating a sense of security in work and production."

The Provincial Military Command coordinates well with military agencies and local authorities in receiving, collecting, managing and destroying bombs, mines and explosives according to regulations. It is estimated that so far, in the province, functional agencies have collected over 50 tons of bombs, mines and artillery shells left over from the war and destroyed about 7 tons of artillery shells of various types.

Thap Muoi District is the locality that has identified many artillery shells and weapons after the war remaining underground, with a contaminated area of ​​over 11,000 hectares. In recent times, the locality has stepped up propaganda work for people on the content related to detecting and handling situations when encountering bombs, mines, and explosives. In 2023, people discovered and notified the authorities to collect and build protective barriers for 11 warheads of various types. Recently, the bank of Nguyen Van Tiep canal in My Thi B hamlet, My An commune, due to landslides on the riverbank, Mortar 60 warheads protruded above the ground. People accidentally discovered them and notified the local authorities and the Military agency to organize safe collection. Mr. Nguyen Van Can, residing in My An commune, Thap Muoi district, said: "When I went fishing, I saw a yellow object protruding above the ground, suspected to be a bomb or mine. I informed the Commander of the Military Command of My An commune to come and inspect and handle it safely."


Bombs, mines, and explosives are dangerous to life, so people who discover them should immediately report them to the armed forces for safe handling.

Also in 2023, Ms. Phan Thi Hop, residing in Hamlet 4, Tan Kieu Commune, discovered a rusted bullet while digging a pond. Ms. Hop was aware of the danger and promptly reported it to the local authorities for handling.

Mr. Le Van Mua - Commander of the Military Command of My An Commune, Thap Muoi District, said: "Recently, some households gardening and digging fish ponds have discovered about 6 warheads. The locality coordinated with the District Military Command to thoroughly and safely handle them. For the Commune Military Command, regularly advise the Commune People's Committee to propagate to the people to understand the explosives left over from the war so that when discovered, they can promptly report to the Military agency to handle them safely for the people."

In addition to timely clearance, collection and disposal of bombs, mines and explosives, localities in the province also promote propaganda for people to raise awareness of accident prevention and when detected, immediately report to the relevant authorities for handling. At the same time, regularly inspect and control the handling of illegal collection, storage, purchase and sale, and use of bombs, mines and explosives. Thereby contributing to minimizing possible bomb and mine accidents.
