Since the beginning of the year, the country has had at least 346 outbreaks of African swine fever in 25 provinces and cities, with thousands of pigs destroyed. In Binh Thuan , authorities recently discovered that 25 pigs from a farm in Tan Ha commune, Ham Tan district were sold to the market, of which 3 tested positive for the African swine fever virus...
African swine fever is transmitted through the respiratory and digestive tracts through direct or indirect contact with objects contaminated with the virus such as: infected pigs, barns, means of transport, tools, utensils, clothing contaminated with the virus and food containing infected pork. Due to the high survival ability of the virus causing the disease, the disease tends to spread very quickly. However, African swine fever does not spread to humans, does not pose a direct threat to human health, but pigs infected with African swine fever are at high risk of contracting other diseases such as blue ear, flu, typhoid... These diseases are dangerous to humans, causing digestive disorders when people eat raw blood pudding or undercooked infected pork. African swine fever is currently spreading rapidly and shows no signs of abating, there are no specific prevention measures for the disease. The disease does not directly affect human health, but can cause or indirectly through other diseases.
In the face of the above situation, the Provincial People's Committee requests the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, branches and People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to launch and organize the implementation of the second phase of the General Cleaning, Disinfection and Environmental Detoxification Month in 2024, during September - October 2024 in the whole province. At the same time, coordinate with the Department of Finance to arrange funding to ensure full and effective implementation of general cleaning, disinfection and environmental detoxification according to regulations. Accordingly, the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities direct the People's Committees of communes, wards and towns to organize general cleaning teams, spray disinfectants for household livestock areas, markets selling live animals and fresh animal products, places collecting live animals and animal products for trading and business, areas for burying and treating diseased animals and animal products carrying pathogens, areas for collecting and treating animal waste, spraying disinfectants in areas only after they have been cleaned and washed... Concentrated livestock facilities in the province, concentrated animal slaughter facilities, poultry hatcheries, proactively arrange funds to organize cleaning, disinfection and detoxification at the facilities and surrounding areas under the supervision of local authorities and veterinary agencies. The Provincial People's Committee said it will mobilize local resources to thoroughly handle outbreaks, prevent new outbreaks, and at the same time organize the destruction of sick pigs, suspected sick pigs, and dead pigs, and proactively implement policies to support farmers suffering losses due to epidemics in accordance with the law. Timely detect, prevent, and strictly handle cases of buying, transporting sick pigs, and dumping dead pigs that spread disease and pollute the environment. Instruct farmers to increase the application of hygiene and disinfection measures in barns and surrounding areas at high risk. Promote biosafety farming, build disease-free farming facilities and areas. Review and specifically and accurately count the total pig herd and the number of pigs vaccinated against African swine fever, on that basis approve plans, prioritize funding for centralized vaccine purchases, and organize synchronous and simultaneous vaccination. At the same time, strictly implement disease prevention and control, especially in areas where there is an epidemic or a risk of an epidemic, build disease-free livestock farming chains and areas. In addition, strengthen information and widely disseminate information in many forms about the dangerous nature of African swine fever, the risk of disease recurrence and spread, disease prevention measures and the use of African swine fever vaccines for pork herds according to the instructions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development .
In particular, strictly handle cases of concealing the epidemic, slow reporting leading to the spread of the epidemic, consider handling the responsibility of the head if he is subjective, negligent in leadership and direction, leading to an outbreak of the epidemic in the management area. Focus on directing, organizing, guiding, urging, and inspecting the prevention and control of African swine fever, proactively and closely monitoring the epidemic situation, ensuring early detection, warning and directing timely and thorough handling of outbreaks, preventing the epidemic from spreading widely...
