On the afternoon of January 25, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Linh led a working delegation to inspect forest protection work before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2024 at Huong Son Forestry & Services Company Limited and the Ngan Pho River Protection Forest Management Board.

Also attending were representatives of the Provincial Police, Provincial Border Guard Command, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and leaders of Huong Son district.

Huong Son Forestry & Services Company Limited is responsible for managing and protecting 19,867.36 hectares of forest, including 8,751.88 hectares of protection forest and 11,115.48 hectares of production forest.

In 2023, the company's revenue will reach 66,303 billion VND (118% of the plan); budget contribution will be 400 million VND; profit will be over 700 million VND; average income per employee will be 6.6 million VND/person/month. In 2024, the company strives to achieve revenue of 58 billion VND; profit of 700 million VND.

The Ngan Pho River Protection Forest Management Board was assigned by the State to manage 25,023.8 hectares of forest and forest land in 12 communes. Of which, 21,922.7 hectares are protection forests and 3,101 hectares are production forests.

The forest area and forest land managed by the unit are located in an area strongly affected by the southwest monsoon, with a harsh, dry and hot climate, making forest fires very likely to occur during the hot season, especially in planted forests. However, thanks to good propaganda and prevention work, in 2023 there were only 3 forest fires, damaging 2.87 hectares of forest in 3 communes: Son Ninh, Son Lam and Kim Hoa; 1 illegal deforestation case, with an area of 0.17 hectares in Son Tien commune.

At the meeting, the units analyzed the difficulties and shortcomings; and at the same time proposed a number of related issues. Huong Son Forestry & Service Company Limited requested that all levels and sectors provide forest protection funding early in the year so that the unit can carry out its tasks most effectively; requested financial support for repairing forest protection stations, improving living conditions for forest protection forces; requested support for the company in borrowing capital, interest rate support to stabilize and expand production; appointed 2 more deputy directors to assist the company director in operating the work...

The Management Board of Ngan Pho River Protection Forest requests competent authorities to set up management markers and issue land use right certificates according to the management area. At the same time, there should be a policy mechanism to care for and support the forest protection force at the base; prioritize the allocation of funds for forest protection and fire prevention, and pest control at the beginning of the year.

Propose that the Provincial People's Committee, Department of Finance, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ha Tinh provide specific instructions on the benefit mechanism and allocation of capital for reforestation after exploitation....

Concluding the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Linh highly appreciated the work of forest protection and development in the area in recent times. In particular, violations of the Law on Forest Protection and Development and forest fires have decreased sharply, which is the result of good work in disseminating the law by all levels and sectors of Huong Son district, especially the two forest owners located in the area.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggested that in the coming time, forest owners should proactively coordinate with functional forces and local authorities to do a good job of protecting forests at the root. Localities and Huong Son district should focus on doing a good job of propaganda to raise awareness among people; at the same time, inspect and review key areas, areas at risk of illegal logging; coordinate well with patrolling and controlling work in the area.
