Successfully handled bomb weighing more than 240 kg in Quang Tri

On September 24, a representative of the International Humanitarian Organization specializing in Mine Action (MAG) said that the MAG Mobile Team successfully handled a bomb weighing more than 240 kg discovered by local people in Quang Tri province.

Previously, Ms. Ho Khuon, residing in Dan Hoa commune, Quang Tri province, while fishing in a stream in the commune, discovered an object suspected to be a bomb lying on the shore, about 20 meters from National Highway 12A. Immediately after that, Ms. Khuon reported the incident to the local authorities to verify, protect the scene and contact the authorities.

Upon receiving the news, the MAG Mobile Team approached the area where the bomb was discovered to assess and find a solution. Experts determined that this was an MK82 bomb left over from the war, weighing 241 kg with a lethal radius of about 1.5 km. After assessing the situation, the MAG Mobile Team made a plan and proceeded to move the bomb to the area waiting to be detonated.

Mr. Dinh Luong, Military Commander of Dan Hoa Commune, said that many unexploded bombs left over from the war were discovered by local people. MAG alone has safely and successfully disposed of more than 10 large bombs discovered in the commune.
