Xuan Giang: Taking the economy as a lever for the goal of building a commune that meets the model New Rural standards

After merging from 5 communes (Xuan Thuy, Xuan Phong, Xuan Dai, Xuan Tan, Xuan Phu), Xuan Giang not only has a larger geographical space but also opens up a "golden opportunity" for economic breakthrough. The Party Committee and the commune government have identified economic development as a key factor to improve people's lives, creating a solid foundation for the goal of building a model new rural commune.

Promoting economic restructuring

The 2020-2025 term is a pivotal period, marking remarkable progress in the economy of Xuan Giang commune. With the motto of taking agriculture as the mainstay and developing industry, handicrafts, and services as the driving force, the commune has achieved many impressive achievements.

Identifying agricultural production as the top priority in socio-economic development, the Party Committee of the commune has focused on directing the transformation of seed and crop structure towards commodity production. Thanks to the application of scientific and technical advances such as the model of sowing rice seedlings in mechanical trays and using microbial fertilizers, the average product value per hectare of crop and aquaculture has reached 150 million VND/ha, exceeding the set target , equal to 120% compared to the previous term.

Not only stopping at traditional agricultural production, new agricultural economic models have created high-quality products with strong local characteristics.

The OCOP bonsai model of Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, Hamlet 4 is a clear demonstration of the economic change here. Overcoming the fate of a disabled person, he has turned his passion for bonsai into a large source of income. With a garden of more than 1 hectare, including more than 1,000 large and small bonsai trees (mainly ancient Nam Dien bonsai trees), this model has helped him get rich. 2 of his products have been recognized as 3-star OCOP products in 2023.

The bonsai model of Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, hamlet 4, Xuan Giang commune is recognized as an OCOP product, with high economic value.

Ngoc Nhuong hamlet production model, hamlet 5 Xuan Phu is one of the typical households of the commune when promoting the development of private economy and households. The business household of Mr. Dang Van Huong has affirmed its reputation with ham, sausage, nem nam products... made according to the traditional profession. Focusing on food safety, this facility has 3 products achieving 3-star OCOP, proving the promotion of traditional profession associated with quality standards.

Along with agriculture, industries, small-scale industries and services have also developed vigorously, such as civil carpentry, garment processing and handicrafts, attracting thousands of workers and contributing significantly to the budget. Currently, there are 108 enterprises and 592 production and business households in the commune. Trade and service activities continue to develop, meeting the production and consumption needs of the people.

The total budget revenue for the entire 2020-2025 term of the commune reached over 302 billion VND, of which the revenue from granting land use rights alone reached over 112 billion VND. This revenue source is used effectively to invest in building socio-economic infrastructure, including upgrading schools, medical stations, and traffic routes.

Outstanding economic development has created a solid foundation for Xuan Giang to achieve comprehensive achievements in building new rural areas and improving people's lives: Of the 5 communes before the merger, 3/3 communes were recognized as meeting advanced new rural standards, Xuan Phu commune was recognized as meeting model new rural standards. 32/37 residential areas were recognized as model new rural residential areas. The poverty rate dropped to only 0.7%...

Breakthrough to achieve the model new rural area goal

Facing the opportunities and challenges of the new period, the 2025-2030 term, the Party Committee of Xuan Giang commune determined the motto "Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Creativity - Development" and set many targets for the term, including striving to achieve the standard of a model new-style rural commune by 2030 .

Sharing about the goals to strive for in the coming term, comrade Pham Thi Minh Hieu, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Xuan Giang Commune Party Committee affirmed: To achieve these goals, the commune will focus on three breakthroughs , which are innovating leadership methods, promoting digital transformation and planning to attract investment.

Along with that, the commune has built 7 key programs to promote agricultural restructuring, form specialized growing areas, develop OCOP products; mobilize resources to continue investing in synchronous and modern rural infrastructure; promote digital transformation; pay attention to creating conditions for the development of enterprises, small-scale industrial establishments, construction, individual production and business; implement a civilized lifestyle, enhance cultural, artistic and sports activities; strengthen Party building and the political system; maintain security, social order and safety and local defense and military tasks will be deployed resolutely.

At the same time, launch three emulation movements: the whole Party, the whole army, and the whole people join hands to build a model new countryside; the Party Committee, the government, and businesses join hands for the poor with the motto "no one is left behind"; cadres, civil servants, and public employees actively participate in digital transformation.

To achieve the set goals, Xuan Giang will focus on building synchronous plans, ensuring the promotion of potential and advantages after the merger. Continue to invest in completing economic and social infrastructure according to the model NTM criteria, especially traffic infrastructure, irrigation, schools and concentrated residential areas.

Promote agricultural restructuring , select high-yield and high-quality rice varieties. Continue to effectively exploit key economic sectors, accumulate land, apply science and technology to increase production value and create 3-star and 4-star OCOP products.

Mr. Dang Van Huan, head of Hamlet 5 Xuan Phu, said: Hamlet 5 Xuan Phu has 435/435 Catholic households. We, the people, are very sympathetic to the development orientation of the commune in the 2025-2030 term. The people in the hamlet have united and mobilized forces to participate in emulation movements, focusing on developing the private economy, clean agricultural economic models, building OCOP products..., increasing people's income to over 85 million VND/person/year.

The merger is a “golden opportunity” for Xuan Giang to create a new look.
