As one of the people who were directly present in the flood-hit area, Major General Pham Van Ty - Deputy Director of the Department of Search and Rescue, General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, shared many unforgettable stories during the process of participating in the rescue of people affected by storm No. 3. "We told each other that searching for the victims was like searching for our relatives" - comrade Pham Van Ty recounted. "During the search, the comrades did not mind the hardships and difficulties. During the program, the audience was moved to hear the story of Nguyen Quoc Bao, who was rescued by Captain Luc Van Nguyen - a police officer of Yen Thuan commune, Ham Yen district police (Tuyen Quang province) when he was swept away by floodwaters. After the storm and flood, Quoc Bao's father and sister did not return, and Luc Van Nguyen became Quoc Bao's adoptive father. In particular, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh went on stage to hold Nguyen Quoc Bao and gave him a backpack for his upcoming school days.
One of the important highlights of the Vietnam Support Program is to honor the spirit of dedication of rescue forces such as soldiers, police, local authorities, militia and volunteers.
