Two years after his "retirement", Lamine Yamal, the genius of Spanish football, finally suffered a deserved defeat.
Yamal has not been unbeaten recently, as he and Barca lost painfully to Inter Milan in the semi-finals of the Champions League this season.
But football is a complex team game. Barca lost to Inter Milan, but Yamal completely defeated the scrutiny and doubts of the fans. He played extremely well in that match, was the soul of Barca's attack and a nightmare for Inter Milan's defense.
When the team did not play well, Yamal's value became even more evident. In just a few months, the 17-year-old boy was elevated from "golden boy" to potential candidate for "Golden Ball".
But early success may be making Yamal a bit complacent. Spanish media have compiled a series of controversial statements, considered "arrogant" by the Barca superstar.
"As long as I win, they can't say anything," Yamal said ahead of the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter. This is clearly an inappropriate statement for a young player.
Not long before, Yamal also showed an arrogant attitude when speaking after the King's Cup final (winning against Real Madrid): "Even if we conceded 1 goal, it's no problem. Conceding 2 goals is no problem. They simply can't beat us this year."
This statement of course made Real Madrid fans angry, even neutral fans could not agree.
However, the 17-year-old superstar is sympathized with, simply because he is only 17 years old. It is the "calf not afraid of tiger" attitude of a boy who has not yet reached adulthood.
And today, Yamal has truly encountered a tiger, a king of the jungle of European football.
Ronaldo is even 5 years older than Yamal's father. And Ronaldo's eldest son is only 2 years younger than the Barca football genius.
Winning and losing are normal things in football. Portugal's penalty shootout victory over Spain cannot be attributed to Ronaldo's superiority over Yamal.
But Yamal has generally learned a valuable lesson. For the first time this season, fans have seen the 17-year-old genius struggle all game long, only dribbling past a player once, creating a single chance.
On the opposite side, Ronaldo did not play very well but was still at the peak of efficiency. He did not dribble successfully, did not have any decisive passes, and only shot once. But that was the goal that equalized the score to 2-2.
No one can win forever, especially when you have to play 60-80 games per season in today's top football.
But Yamal will gradually mature after these types of defeats, to suppress his pre- and post-match inappropriate statements.
