"I will bring the Champions League back to Barcelona", Yamal promises

"We gave it our all - this year it wasn't possible, but we will be back, there's no doubt about that. Culers, we won't stop until we get this club where it belongs: at the top.

"I will keep my promise and bring the Champions League title back to Barcelona. We will not stop until we achieve it," Yamal emphasized in a message posted on social media after Barcelona lost 3-4 (6-7 on aggregate) to Inter Milan in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final on May 7, saying goodbye to the dream of reaching the final.

"But this weekend (May 11) is another final and we must all be united. Go Barca!", Yamal added. It is the El Clasico in La Liga when Barcelona welcomes arch-rivals Real Madrid, in a decisive match for the championship of this tournament before the last 4 rounds.

Barcelona are now four points ahead of Real Madrid (79 to 75). This is the last major title the Catalans must defend, after they suffered a stunning defeat in the Champions League semi-finals against Inter Milan.

Barcelona had previously won the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. They had dreamed of winning a quadruple, but now they can only hope to win a domestic treble, with the most prestigious La Liga title in their hands.

Real Madrid also consider the decisive match with Barcelona as a vital match in the current season for the chance to win the most prestigious title, after the two European Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup titles. The result of this match (if Real Madrid draws or loses), will also decide the position of coach Ancelotti right before the end of the season (May 25).

Controversial penalty Barcelona received at the end of the first half of the 3-4 loss to Inter Milan

Spanish press said that referee Szymon Marciniak (Polish) and VAR made a serious mistake when they recognized the situation where Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi fouled striker Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan) in the penalty area, in the last minute of injury time of the first half.

"After reviewing it 80 times, we did not see any direct contact between the defender and the striker. VAR's intervention was incorrect. It was not a penalty. When the referee blew the whistle, Cubarsi should have received a yellow card, but he was not penalized," Marca quoted former Spanish referee Pavel Fernandez as saying.

Meanwhile, famous former coach Arsene Wenger also objected to the penalty award for Cubarsi's foul on Lautaro Martinez, after reviewing the situation very carefully before the referee's decision.

"I'm totally against the Cubarsi penalty," he said. "If you slow down anything, in slow motion, you can find the penalty in everything. In real time, it was a great challenge and Cubarsi won the ball. The referee didn't make the right decision."

Barcelona's penalty at the end of the first half left them 2-0 down to Inter Milan. Before exploding in the second half, levelling the score at 2-2 in just 5 minutes thanks to Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo scoring consecutively in the 54th and 60th minutes.

The Catalan team led 3-2 (Raphinha scored) from the 87th to the 90+3rd minute, but 37-year-old defender Acerbi managed to equalize 3-3 for Inter Milan, sending the match into extra time. Here, substitute Davide Frattesi became the hero for Inter Milan, scoring the decisive goal in the 99th minute to raise the score to 4-3.
