YouTube annoys with unusually long non-skippable ads

According to YouTube, non-skippable ads typically last up to 15 seconds, so it's unacceptable for users to encounter ads that are this long. While some users have encountered long non-skippable ads, others have also complained about ads that are longer than normal.

A non-skippable ad that lasts over 2 hours and 52 minutes on YouTube

Some people even said they saw ads that were 10 hours long, while some talked about ads that were 90 hours long. To prove it, one user shared an image of an ad that was 2 hours and 52 minutes long for a video that was only 49 minutes long.

The image shows a "skip ad" button in the bottom left corner, suggesting that YouTube may be intentionally showing long ads to people using ad blockers. Some users have suggested that ad blockers may be blocking the "Skip" button, resulting in long, non-skippable ads.

Using all kinds of tricks to attract users to use YouTube Premium package

YouTube has reportedly increased the number and duration of ads shown to free users and is using tactics to prevent the use of ad blockers as it impacts revenue and the ability to pay creators.

In a statement about the appearance of long-running ads, a YouTube representative said: "Ads play an important role in supporting YouTube content creators, helping them maintain and grow their businesses. However, using ad blockers violates the platform's Terms of Service. To encourage viewers to turn off ad blockers, YouTube has launched a global campaign, and recommends users try YouTube Premium for an ad-free experience."

YouTube also said it is working to detect and prevent users from using ad blockers. In the event of repeated violations, Google reserves the right to disable video playback. Users currently have two options: pay for YouTube Premium to avoid ads, or accept ads and look elsewhere for content.

While not made public, it's possible that the unusually long ads users are seeing are a measure from Google to punish violators.
