MU suffered heavy losses before the final. |
The upcoming Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United promises to be a fierce clash, with a ticket to next season's Champions League on the line. However, both teams are struggling with lengthy injury lists, leaving many key players in doubt.
On Tottenham's side, coach Ange Postecoglou confirmed the absence of James Maddison, who scored an important goal in the semi-final to help Spurs reach Bilbao, as well as shining in the victory over Man United earlier in the season.
In addition, Dejan Kulusevski, one of the pillars in the attack, is also unable to play due to a recent injury. Other names on the sidelines include Radu Dragusin, Lucas Bergvall, loan player Timo Werner and young talent Dane Scarlett.
There was also a fresh concern when Pape Matar Sarr was substituted against Aston Villa with a back injury. Postecoglou said the substitution was a precautionary measure and hoped the injury was not serious, but the Senegalese midfielder's availability remains a big question mark.
On Manchester United's side, coach Ruben Amorim is also having a headache. Lisandro Martinez is still out long-term with a knee injury, while Joshua Zirkzee is absent due to a thigh problem.
United's defence has also been badly damaged, with Matthijs De Ligt and Leny Yoro both doubtful after recent injuries. Diogo Dalot has a sore calf but appears optimistic, while Jonny Evans - who has rarely been used - was not even in the squad for the recent Chelsea game.
Tottenham have beaten United three times this season. With a depleted squad, they will hope to rewrite history on a big night. Meanwhile, United enter the final in their worst form of the Premier League era, having lost six of their last eight games. However, victory in the Europa League could be the chance to salvage a disappointing season for Amorim's men.
