Venice's idyllic Lido Island was once again ablaze with lights and red carpets as the 82nd Venice Film Festival officially opened on August 27.

This prestigious film event brings together 21 works competing for the Golden Lion award, continuing to affirm its position as one of the "three pillars" of European cinema, alongside Cannes and Berlin.

Sitting as President of the International Jury this year is American director Alexander Payne - a name associated with profound films about human destiny.

The highlight of the opening night was the solemn moment of presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to German cinema master Werner Herzog, who left his mark with more than 70 haunting films such as "Grizzly Man" and "Fitzcarraldo."

Besides him, American actress Kim Novak was also honored with this prestigious award, adding to the brilliant atmosphere of the ceremony.

Kicking off the film season, director Paolo Sorrentino brings "La Grazia" - a story full of struggles about the Italian President facing the decision of whether or not to sign the euthanasia bill into law.

As planned, on August 28, Venice audiences will welcome George Clooney - the star known as the Hollywood icon, in the comedy "Jay Kelly" directed by Noah Baumbach and produced by Netflix. Clooney transforms into a veteran actor in an identity crisis, promising to bring many emotions both witty and bitter.

On the evening of August 28, the Lido atmosphere will explode again with "Bugonia," a science fiction comedy by Yorgos Lanthimos. Emma Stone appears as a female pharmaceutical director who suddenly becomes an "alien" in the eyes of her captors.

This year's Venice Film Festival is not only a playground for competing films, but also features many in-depth classes, as well as special discussions.

From now until September 6, Lido Island will become the heart of world cinema - where art, glory and creative aspirations come together on the silver screen./.
