5 gold medals, 7 silver medals awarded at the "Moc Quan" reformed opera competition

There were 12 medals awarded including: 5 gold medals (VND20 million/prize): Nguyen Hung Vuong (Ben Tre Cai Luong Art Troupe), Tran Chi Hoa (Cao Van Lau Cai Luong Troupe), Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Nguyen Phuong Anh (Tay Do Cai Luong Theatre) and Phung Ngoc Bay (Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theatre); 7 silver medals (VND10 million/prize): Le Vu Anh Duy, Nguyen Van Thinh (Tay Do Cai Luong Theatre), Dinh Thi Nga, Hoa Mai Group (Vietnam Cai Luong Theatre), Nguyen Hoang Anh Tuan (Military Zone 9 Art Troupe), Huynh Thi Kim Tuyen (An Giang Province Cultural and Art Center), Nguyen Van Dung (Cao Van Lau Cai Luong Troupe).

The 2023 "Moc Quan - Nguyen Trong Quyen" competition is organized by the People's Committee of Can Tho City in coordination with the Vietnam Stage Artists Association. This is also a key activity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Can Tho City under the central government and the 70th anniversary of the death of the composer "Moc Quan - Nguyen Trong Quyen".

The competition attracted 43 contestants from provinces and cities with strong movements in the art of Cai Luong and Don Ca Tai Tu. The competition nights included three rounds: preliminary, semi-final and final, held from November 3 to 29.

Regarding the singing performance, the contestants in the final round have all invested and prepared to compete. However, the structure of the rounds is unreasonable, leading to inaccurate assessment of each contestant's progress. Some other limitations include not exploiting the script source of "Moc Quan - Nguyen Trong Quyen", even though his work is no longer suitable because of the text, the methodical operation according to the structure of 4 beats, 6 beats is very slow. Therefore, the organizing committee needs to rewrite the script to create innovation in the way of creating singing performances to maintain the spirit of the work "Moc Quan - Nguyen Trong Quyen".

4 consolation prizes of the competition

- The Best Supporting Actress Award went to artist Nguyen Thi Diem My, in the role of Ut Tam, supporting the performance of contestant Tran Chi Hoa (Cao Van Lau Theater) in the excerpt "Red River", author: Ngo Hong Khanh, director: Hoang Huy.

- The Youngest Supporting Actor Award went to Hong Phuc, in the role of Tuan's son, supporting the performance of contestant Tran Tan Tai (Hau Giang Province Cultural Center) in the excerpt "Song of Looking for Mother", author: Truong Vu, Ngoc Tranh, director: Duy Linh.

- The Oldest Actor Award went to contestant Bui Nhu Nguyet (Can Tho City Theater Association). - The Best Behavior Award went to contestant Doan Hoa Mai (Traditional Cai Luong Troupe - Vietnam Cai Luong Theatre).
