On October 9, at the Press Conference announcing the preparations and organization of the 1st Government Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030, Party Central Committee member, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son informed the press about the outstanding and important achievements that the education sector has achieved during this term of the Government.

Fundamental innovation, comprehensive development

Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that over the past five years, the education and training sector has implemented the directives of the 13th Party Congress Resolution on continuing to fundamentally and comprehensively innovate education and training.

Education and training are still directed and oriented as a strategic breakthrough and top national policy for national development with the important task of developing people, training human resources and nurturing talents to serve the cause of industrialization, modernization and national development.

"Aware of this responsibility, the industry has strived to complete the tasks well and achieved many results in the past 5 years" - the Minister emphasized.

The entire education system has grown very strongly over the past 5 years, including the number of learners, the number of educational institutions, learning opportunities, teaching staff, infrastructure systems, etc.

“This increase in scale is the result of both natural population growth and increased demand for education, but also the result of universalizing and mobilizing children to go to school from preschool to other levels. Over the past 5 years, we have completed the goal of universalizing preschool education for 5-year-olds and universalizing education to lower secondary school,” said the Minister.

During this term, the Minister said, the teaching staff has also increased and now the whole country has up to 1.6 million teachers; the quality has also been constantly improved. The increase in learning opportunities and lifelong learning of the people has also promoted the scale of the entire education and training system.

Notably, a very impressive point in the past 5 years is that at the general education level, the education sector has completed the implementation cycle of the new general education program 2018. From 2018 to 2025, from grade 1 to grade 12, the new general education program has been implemented. In particular, there is a strong shift from knowledge-based education to developing learners' capacity.

It can be said that up to this point, reviewing the important goals of implementing the new general education program has achieved results. Currently, the Ministry is organizing a review of the implementation process to have steps for the next stage.

Many policy mechanisms have been built, especially the Law on Teachers.

The Minister of Education and Training also said that over the past time, the excellent student exams, especially in the international Olympic exams for 5 years, have been maintained in the top 10 countries with the best exam results worldwide . There are teams and groups of subjects that are even in the top 5 or top 3 countries with the best exam results worldwide. The excellent student exams are increasingly innovative. This shows the efforts and abilities of Vietnamese students shown in international arenas.

In addition, higher education has also made progress, many universities have appeared in prestigious ranking groups in the world. There have been many new training programs, new fields, especially in engineering technology. Currently, the rate of students studying in the fields of engineering technology, new majors has reached over 30%.

Regarding the teaching staff, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that the past 5 years have seen an increase in the number of teachers, and the State has paid special attention to policies for teachers.

"Over the past five years, the teaching staff has been more confident, more excited and more committed to the profession. Never before have candidates taken the entrance exam for pedagogical majors been so high and the entrance scores for pedagogical colleges last year were among the highest, along with the health sciences and medicine majors. This is a very good thing, showing optimism about the future of our education system. It can be said that this is a great effort that the industry can attract social forces," the Minister emphasized.

According to the Minister, another impressive point in the past 5 years is the institution, many policy mechanisms have been built, especially the Law on Teachers which was passed by the National Assembly, which aims to develop the teaching staff and will take effect from the beginning of next year.

In addition, other laws such as the Law on Higher Education, the Law on Vocational Education, and the Law on Education are also being completed and will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval at the upcoming October session.

"And 5 years can be considered as continuing fundamental and comprehensive innovation in the spirit of Resolution 29. At the end of these 5 years, the education sector received very important instructions from the Politburo with Resolution 71. Thus, there are many new points that are difficult to mention in a few minutes.

The road ahead will continue to have very profound innovations and we are making efforts to implement them. We promise that in the next 5 years, we will continue to have even greater results for the education sector," the Minister of Education and Training emphasized.
