In May alone, the whole country had more than 15.1 thousand newly established enterprises with registered capital of more than 156.7 thousand billion VND and registered number of employees of 98.1 thousand, down 0.6% in number of enterprises, up 17.3% in registered capital and down 23.1% in number of employees compared to April 2025.
Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of enterprises increased by 6.1%, the registered capital increased by 16.6% and the number of employees increased by 29.3%. The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in the month reached 10.4 billion VND, an increase of 18.0% compared to April 2025 and an increase of 9.9% compared to the same period in 2024. In addition, the whole country also had more than 8,000 enterprises returning to operation, down 11.1% compared to April 2024 and up 18.8% compared to the same period in 2024.
In the first 5 months of 2025, the whole country had nearly 66.8 thousand newly registered enterprises with a total registered capital of 647.1 thousand billion VND and a total registered number of employees of 453.9 thousand, an increase of 0.6% in the number of enterprises, a decrease of 2.2% in registered capital and an increase of 6.2% in the number of employees compared to the same period in 2024.

The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in the first 5 months of 2025 reached 9.7 billion VND, down 2.7% over the same period in 2024. The total registered capital added to the economy in the first 5 months of this year was nearly 2,279.5 trillion VND, up 83.8% over the same period in 2024.
By economic sector, in the first 5 months of 2025, there were 627 newly registered enterprises in the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector, down 1.7% over the same period; more than 15.2 thousand enterprises in the industry and construction sector, down 3.9%; nearly 50.9 thousand enterprises in the service sector, up 2%.
Also in May, 5,924 enterprises registered to temporarily suspend business for a period of time, down 17.5% compared to the previous month and up 11.7% compared to the same period in 2024; 6,535 enterprises temporarily suspended operations pending dissolution procedures, down 27.3% and up 43.6%; 1,909 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, up 9.1% and down 12.8%.

In the first 5 months of this year, the number of enterprises temporarily suspending business was nearly 74,600, up 12.8% over the same period in 2024; more than 27,500 enterprises temporarily suspended operations pending dissolution procedures, up 18.3%; nearly 9,600 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, up 15.7%. On average, more than 22,300 enterprises withdrew from the market per month.
Statistics on business performance nationwide in May in particular and the first five months of the year in general are vividly demonstrating the prospects for Vietnam's economic recovery and growth in 2025. Most figures show that businesses expect Vietnam to achieve impressive economic growth this year.
However, according to experts, Vietnam still faces risks from global economic instability as well as increasing competitive pressure. Therefore, businesses need to have flexible strategies, taking advantage of opportunities from supply chain shifts and domestic consumption to maintain sustainable growth in 2025.
