A boy with malignant bone cancer with a tumor invading his entire femur has just undergone surgery by doctors at Vinmec International General Hospital to replace his entire femur with personalized 3D printed material. The successful surgery completely removed the malignant tumor, not only saving his life but also preserving his limb. After surgery, the patient was able to walk on his own two feet with the support of physical therapy.
This is the world's youngest surgery to replace the entire femur with personalized 3D printed material for a pediatric cancer patient. This is also the first biomedical product designed and manufactured entirely domestically, marking an important step forward in the application of precision medicine in Vietnam. Self-manufacturing the device not only helps to be proactive in treatment, but also opens up a new direction for Vietnamese medicine./.
