Hue City is developing tourism through the development of green tours, associated with a commitment to reducing plastic waste. One of the outstanding products is the "Culinary tour to reduce plastic waste - Green Chuon Lagoon", organized by Hue College of Tourism in collaboration with travel agencies. The tour takes visitors to explore the beauty of Tam Giang Lagoon - a place where nature and local culture blend together through activities such as boating, fishing, enjoying specialties and interacting with local people.

The tour’s special feature is not the luxurious service but the “green” spirit. Tourists are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, limiting the use of disposable plastic. Service establishments such as restaurants and homestays are committed to using environmentally friendly materials such as bamboo, ceramic, porcelain, etc. A quiet, clean and connected space makes tourists like Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dung very impressed.

“Visitors to Chuon lagoon can cast nets, park their traps and walk around the lagoon, watch the sunset, watch the sunrise... Here the space is open and very quiet. I really like the feeling of experiencing and relaxing...”, said Mr. Dung.

The Quang Loi commune government also closely accompanies, supports people to invest in equipment, convert to environmentally friendly items, aiming to build a "green and sustainable destination".

Mr. Phan Dang Bao, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Loi Commune, Quang Dien District, Hue City, said that the water surface area of Tam Giang Lagoon currently has tours, sightseeing routes, and experiences. The district promotes and mobilizes passenger transport vehicles to equip environmentally friendly items such as glass bottles, bamboo trays, etc. to reduce plastic waste in the lagoon. For parks and public entertainment venues, the district also promotes businesses to limit the use of plastic materials and encourages the use of cloth and paper bags to reduce plastic waste.

Hue City is implementing the project “Hue – Plastic-reducing City in Central Vietnam”. The goal by 2025 is to reduce plastic waste by 50% and have 100% of solid waste sorted at source, collected and treated effectively, while promoting the recovery of recyclable waste from landfills. By 2030, the city’s river systems and wetland ecosystems will be protected from plastic waste pollution.

“We continue to coordinate with the Department of Tourism, the Tourism Association as well as the Hue City People's Committee to promote the reduction of single-use plastic at heritage sites and tourist attractions. This is to promote Hue to become a heritage destination without plastic waste,” said Ms. Hoang Ngoc Tuong Van, project manager.
