"Initially, only three white-cheeked langurs, including one male and two females, were released onto Ngoc Island. Currently, the langur family has increased to eight individuals, living in harmony," said the representative.

Previously, in August 2020, the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex Management Board coordinated with Cuc Phuong National Park and relevant parties to successfully transfer 3 Delacour's langurs from the endangered primate rescue center to Trang An.

Three Delacour’s langurs were brought to Ngoc Island (Trang An scenic area) to integrate into the environment where they were originally distributed. Initially, these three individuals were kept in captivity to adapt to the new natural living conditions. The individuals were cared for, protected, raised and directly monitored by a team of staff who studied and trained by experts from Cuc Phuong National Park.

By October 2020, the individuals were released to live freely on Ngoc Mountain, foraging for food and fully adapting to the new habitat. After more than a year of integrating into the new habitat, the family of white-cheeked langurs gave birth to their first individual. The baby langur was born on October 24, 2021, weighing nearly 300g.

"The birth of the first Delacour's langur in the Pearl Island environment is a positive sign in the work of biodiversity conservation in this ecological area. This creates the basis for restoring and establishing a new population of this extremely endangered and rare endemic primate species," said a representative of the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex Management Board.

It is known that Ngoc Island in the core area of Trang An World Heritage is a separate area, a safe place for a group of white-cheeked langurs. This place is strictly managed, not affected by human impacts as well as environmental pollution, or hunting activities, encroachment on cultivated land or limestone mining.

On Ngoc Island, animal monitoring and management can be carried out at any time. In addition, it is easy to transfer animals or provide veterinary intervention when necessary. However, external impacts such as weather, climate, diseases and natural food sources are currently challenges for the management and conservation of the Delacour’s langur here.
