On the evening of August 7, the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) officially announced the number of candidates with valid IELTS certificates registering for regular university admission in 2025.
The number of candidates with IELTS increased 3.7 times compared to last year.
According to Master Cu Xuan Tien - Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the school, for candidates with international English certificates as prescribed, the school allows candidates to use the converted results of the certificate scores to replace the corresponding English exam scores to consider the total score of 3 graduation exams according to the admission subject group.
In addition, candidates with English certificates can still register for the English graduation exam and use the bonus point policy for admission consideration.
Previously, the school announced the time to submit admission proof (including foreign language certificates) from June 15 to July 10 through the school's admission portal.
As for the admission method based on the 2025 high school graduation exam scores, candidates are allowed to add evidence on the general admission registration system of the Ministry of Education and Training until 5:00 p.m. on July 28.
"This year, a total of 8,849 candidates registered for admission to the school and submitted valid IELTS certificates, an increase of 3.7 times compared to last year.
According to statistics, 182 candidates have IELTS 8.0 or higher (an increase of 103 compared to 2024), 6,853 candidates have IELTS 6.0 or higher (an increase of 5,019 compared to 2024). The score that many candidates achieved is 5.5 - 7.0. About 50 other candidates use TOEIC, TOEFL or Cambridge certificates," Mr. Tien added.

In addition, the school received 243 SAT and ACT certificates, an increase of 156 students compared to 2024.
Candidates with IELTS will be awarded 0.5 - 1.5 points in all methods.
According to school regulations, candidates with a valid IELTS certificate will be awarded 0.5 - 1.5 points in all methods, or converted to 8-10 points in English if they register for consideration using high school graduation exam results (and take this subject).
The system will automatically select the method with the highest score for the candidate when considering admission.
Bonus scoreboard and English certificate conversion score applicable to 2025 regular university admissions University of Economics and Law
The above bonus points and conversion points are applied to the high school graduation exam score method (combination of 3 subjects, maximum score is 30 points). For different methods, they will be converted to the maximum score of the corresponding method.
The school does not simultaneously apply bonus points and convert English certificate points.
Candidates who use the conversion of certificate scores to replace the corresponding foreign language exam scores to consider the total graduation exam score according to the school's subject combination will not receive bonus points for the English certificate.
For TOEIC certificate, candidates need to submit TOEIC certificate (listening and reading) and TOEIC certificate (speaking and writing) at the same time. Bonus points and conversion points will be based on the lower component score pair.
For TOEFL iBT certificate: TOEFL iBT Home Edition certificate does not apply.
The benchmark will decrease by about 0.5 - 1.5 points.
The total enrollment target for full-time university students this year is 2,700 students.
According to Mr. Tien, the 2025 high school graduation exam scores for English and math both decreased, while 5 out of 6 subject combinations for admission of the school have both of these subjects, the remaining is combination A00 (math - physics - chemistry).
Therefore, the school's benchmark score is expected to decrease by about 0.5 - 1 point compared to 2024.
International business, e-commerce, international economics, marketing, economic law, etc. continue to attract many candidates, so the benchmark scores may decrease below the above level or remain the same.
Meanwhile, the school's new majors such as civil law (English program); applied mathematics in economics, management and finance (English program); financial technology (Co-op program); management information systems (Co-op program) are likely to have a benchmark score decrease of about 1.5 points.
