AI "gives wings" to creativity for Vietnamese artists

VHO - In the flow of contemporary music, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a new "wing" for Vietnamese artists on their creative journey. As the boundary between technology and emotion gradually blurs, AI opens up a wide space of expression, helping artists overcome the limits of budget, time and technology to realize bold ideas.

However, in the era of algorithms and data, human emotions are still an irreplaceable source - the place that decides whether an MV stops at just the effects or truly touches the hearts of viewers.

Catch up with world trends

From initial experiments to widespread application in the music industry, artificial intelligence (AI) is not only a supporting tool but is gradually becoming a "co-creator", fundamentally changing the way MV is produced. In the world, the application of AI in MV production has been thoroughly exploited by many artists and producers, creating remarkable products and opening up new directions for audiovisual art.

In Vietnam, amid the booming wave of AI technology, musician Thai Nguyen's MV Peace Song brings a breath of fresh air by combining music with modern technology. The entire MV was made with AI, with the main character being the virtual singer AI/T (Ai Trinh) - an image Thai Nguyen built over many months. In the MV, AI/T transforms into a princess in a time of war, symbolizing the desire for peace and love for humanity.

Young singer Thoai Nghi has just released the MV "Surrender", marking a step forward in her musical style after the success of the hit " Take me home" earlier this year. The work attracted attention when director Pham Vinh Khuong made it entirely on his phone - a bold experiment. Applying new generation AI technology, he created surreal, cinematic frames. The AI character in the MV was inspired by singer Thoai Nghi, but did not copy the original to respect image rights. The combination of fashion elements and a magical space gives the audience a new visual experience.

Many recent Vietnamese music products have also recorded the mark of AI technology. In particular, the MV Em oi vi dau by singer Dan Truong - considered the first MV in Vietnam made entirely by AI - marked a strong transformation, bringing this technology into the mainstream music stream. Following that, artist Nguyen Vu released the MV Vietnam Hanh Trinh Xanh under the project Vietnam - The Rising Era, made 100% by AI, vividly recreating the landmarks and images of Vietnamese people. He shared that he wanted to apply technology to keep up with the times, although he admitted that "when it comes to technology, it cannot be 100% real".

Previously, the MV Kiep sau van la nguoi Viet Nam (The next life is still Vietnamese) with the voices of Quoc Thien, Duong Hoang Yen, Quan AP, Lam Bao Ngoc and People's Artist Thu Huyen also applied AI technology in the image staging stage. It can be seen that more and more Vietnamese MVs are being made or applying AI in one or more stages of production, affirming the strong integration trend of Vietnamese music on the global creative map.

Remove barriers, open up creative space

If in the past, producing a music video was a journey that consumed huge resources, required a large team, a large budget and a long post-production time, now, artificial intelligence (AI) has changed the entire process. AI tools can turn initial ideas into a series of dynamic, highly aesthetic scenes in a short time, helping artists escape the pressure of filming, hiring actors or building complex sets.

Thanks to that, an independent artist with a limited budget can still create a quality MV with their own personal mark without needing a large crew. With AI, they can enter a surreal world, build magical spaces that never existed, or transform artistic styles with just a few operations. Technology becomes a powerful lever, helping artists focus more on the core - telling their own story.

Director Pham Vinh Khuong, a pioneer in the AI cinema movement in Vietnam, has made many music videos using technology such as Cheo Moi Lai Ra, Buc Tranh Dai Viet, Tiec Trang, Mat Bao, especially Dau Hang Di - which took two months to complete. He said that although technology is increasingly developing, creating high-quality music videos still requires AI systems trained on large data sources and sophisticated processing. AI can create content based on templates, but cannot replace human creativity, emotion and artistic depth.

According to director Pham Vinh Khuong, the development of phone filming technology and AI platforms is turning smartphones into "miniature studios". Many MVs or short films made with phones have achieved image quality that is not inferior to professional works. "In the past, making films required specialized cameras, large film crews, and high costs. Now, we have many options and suitable solutions. Compact filming equipment and increasingly advanced image processing techniques make directors no longer under as much pressure as before," he shared.

For musician Thai Nguyen, AI is a “creative assistant” that helps realize ideas, but emotions and messages always belong to humans. Despite many technical barriers, he believes that technology will open up new creative spaces for artists. In Song of Peace, he not only tells a musical story, but also conveys his views on the role of artists in the AI era - where technology helps them spread deeper emotions.

However, along with the opportunities come challenges. The ease of creating images with AI can lead to the risk of saturation, causing many products to have similar aesthetics and lack personal touches. A work of art can only truly touch the hearts of the audience when it is imbued with emotion, creative work and the inner “struggle” of the artist. MVs born entirely from algorithms can lack the “soul” - the thing that makes art come alive and humane.

However, AI applications are still a promising trend, where creativity is liberated, opening the door for visual and audio dreams to fly further. The future of MV is not AI replacing humans, but a harmonious companionship: Let technology handle the technical parts, while artists devote their hearts to the story, ideas and emotions. Because after all, it is emotions, not algorithms, that help a work live forever in the hearts of the public.
