On October 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th India Mobile Congress (IMC) at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, kicking off Asia's largest technology and telecommunications event.

IMC 2025 is jointly organized by the Ministry of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) for four days, with the theme “Innovate to Transform.”

The event brings together more than 1.5 million visitors, 7,000 international delegates, 400 companies and 800 speakers from over 150 countries, with more than 100 in-depth discussion sessions.

The key topics of this year's IMC include 6G, quantum communications, semiconductors in telecommunications, optical networks and cybersecurity.

Over 1,600 new use cases in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), 5G/6G, green technology and smart mobility will be showcased, demonstrating India's commitment to innovation and digital sovereignty, the organizers said.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Modi asserted that this is the best time to invest, innovate and “Make in India,” as the country is emerging as the world ’s new technology and manufacturing hub.

He stressed that any disruption in the global supply chain is an opportunity for India to play a pioneering role, especially in the areas of semiconductors, data and cyber security.

Prime Minister Modi said the Indian government is setting up 10 semiconductor manufacturing units to strengthen national capabilities and encourage indigenous development of chipsets and mobile components.

He also highlighted India's potential to become a global data hub, supported by strong digital connectivity and the world's lowest data costs – “1GB of data is just the price of a cup of tea.”

Prime Minister Modi asserted that digital connectivity is no longer a luxury, but a necessity, and called on startups, technology businesses and investors to join hands to boost India's growth, innovation and global competitiveness.

With its ever-expanding scale and influence, IMC 2025 is expected to consolidate India's position as a leading locomotive in the era of global digital connectivity./.
