DTO - Over the past 3 years, Mr. Nguyen Van Dang (born in 1994) - Secretary of the Youth Union of Hamlet 3, Thuong Phuoc 2 Commune, Hong Ngu District has "fallen in love" with the profession of raising commercial rabbits and successfully started a business with this profession.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dang (residing in Hamlet 3, Thuong Phuoc 2 Commune, Hong Ngu District) successfully started a business raising commercial rabbits.

Previously, Mr. Dang had no job, so he left his hometown to work as a laborer in Binh Duong and Lam Dong provinces to earn a living. In 2021, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, Mr. Dang became unemployed and returned to his hometown. With the desire to improve his income, Mr. Dang looked for a job and researched livestock and crop farming models to implement. Researching through newspapers and radio, he realized that rabbit farming had many advantages such as: low cost, the main food source was mainly vegetables, and the market for rabbit meat was quite stable, so he decided to start a business with commercial rabbit farming.

At the end of 2021, with his own savings, Mr. Dang invested in building a barn and bought 40 baby rabbits to raise. Every day, he went to cut water spinach to feed the rabbits. After 4 months of raising, Mr. Dang sold the first batch of rabbits with 15 meat rabbits, earning more than 3 million VND. Mr. Dang said that due to lack of experience, the first batch of rabbits raised was not effective. Raising rabbits encountered many difficulties such as rabbits often getting sick, refusing to eat, slow growth, and suffering from many losses...

Not discouraged by failure, Mr. Dang was determined to research and improve rabbit farming techniques, and proactively sought out rabbit farmers in and outside the district to learn from their experiences and how to care for rabbits to gain weight quickly. Through learning from their experiences and techniques, from the second batch of rabbits, Mr. Dang redesigned the airy barn, kept the rabbits dry to prevent disease; gave the rabbits more food to grow quickly... In addition, to support Mr. Dang in developing his rabbit farming career, in 2022, Thuong Phuoc 2 Commune Union supported him with a loan from the Social Policy Bank for 90 million VND. With the loan, Mr. Dang repaired and expanded the barn, invested in an automatic drinking water system for rabbits, and bought more baby rabbits to raise. Thuong Phuoc 2 Commune Union introduced him to participate in training courses in the commune and district on transferring science and technology in animal husbandry, helping him raise rabbits more conveniently.

To increase the number of rabbits, each time he sells rabbits, he chooses good rabbits to keep and breed to create a herd. Each rabbit gives birth to 1 litter/month, from 2 to 7 rabbits/litter. With this method, Mr. Dang's rabbit herd has increased in number. From 40 rabbits at first, it has now increased to more than 150, with rabbit breeds in Vietnam and crossbred rabbits. Thanks to knowing how to take care of rabbits, calculating the time properly and letting rabbits reproduce continuously, Mr. Dang has baby rabbits to raise and sell for meat every month. He sells meat rabbits to traders in An Giang province at prices ranging from 60,000 to 80,000 VND/kg, each rabbit weighs from 3 to 4kg. In addition, Mr. Dang also sells baby rabbits to people in and outside the locality. On average, each month, after deducting expenses, Mr. Dang earns nearly 6 million VND from selling meat rabbits and baby rabbits. Mr. Nguyen Van Dang shared: “Through the process of raising rabbits, I realized that raising rabbits is low in terms of initial investment costs, the source of food for rabbits is also easy to find in nature, and requires little care. Thanks to raising rabbits, I can increase my income, not have to work far from home and have conditions to take better care of my family life.”

Mr. Duong Van Tinh - Secretary of Thuong Phuoc 2 Commune Youth Union (Hong Ngu district), said: “Mr. Nguyen Van Dang is one of the typical young people in the commune who successfully started a business raising commercial rabbits and has a stable life. From Mr. Dang's start-up model, it contributes to creating motivation, spreading the spirit and will to start a business to many young people in the commune. In the coming time, Thuong Phuoc 2 Commune Youth Union will continue to create conditions, support product output, and train Mr. Dang in breeding techniques to expand and develop the commercial rabbit farming profession to help him develop his family economy. In the coming time, the Commune Youth Union will continue to promote propaganda and mobilize union members and young people in the commune to participate in the start-up movement to contribute to economic development and stabilize life".
