On November 11, 2015, a tree about 20 meters long was found in a field in Cong Nghi town, Chongzhou city, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

According to the locals, early that morning, while a farmer in town was working in the fields, he dug up a black and hard log. The more he dug, the bigger he saw that it was, so he called out to everyone around him to come help. The news quickly spread throughout the area.

At 4:30 p.m. the same day, local reporters were present at the scene to report. In the field, a large crowd of people gathered, watching the process of digging up the strange tree, and chatting animatedly. Not far away, reporters saw a large hole about 30 meters long, 3 meters wide, and nearly 2 meters deep dug into the cultivated land. Right next to it were 3 large logs about 60 meters in diameter and 10 meters long in total.

According to local people, there was still a larger log, about 10m long, at the bottom of the hole. However, later that day, this log was dug up by local people. Most people believe that this giant tree could be a precious wood thousands of years old.

Mr. Tran, a resident of the town, said that he was the owner of the land. A month ago, he rented nearly 2 acres of land to a man named Thuoc for business and farming. He did not expect that the man would dig up the wood on his field.

The reporter said that also that morning, after the news about the logs spread, the Cong Nghi Town Government and the Chongzhou City Police immediately went to the scene to inspect, and at the same time arranged forces to block off the area where the strange logs appeared.

After 5 p.m. that day, the reporter said that the Cong Nghi Town Government reported the incident to their superiors, and said that the peach wood was tentatively identified as agarwood, also known as Dong Phuong Than Moc. They then contacted more experts to verify and verify the above speculation.

According to experts, this type of wood is extremely rare, has high economic and research value. Accordingly, basswood is a type of carbonized wood, formed from ancient trees thousands of years ago, even tens of thousands of years ago, sunk and buried in the river due to natural causes. After a long time immersed in water, the wood structure has changed.

Regarding color characteristics, agarwood has many different colors such as brown, gray, black, blue-black, purple... After a long time, the wood is carbonized and becomes dark black like coal. With the penetration of other minerals and being soaked in water for tens of thousands of years, agarwood becomes solid and does not rot or get worms, considered the quintessence of heaven and earth.

With the large tree found, experts estimate its value to be at least 100 million yuan (over 350 billion dong). Previously in 2013, after a basswood tree was discovered in Pengzhou, Chengdu City, a senior ebony collector said the price of the basswood Kim to nam moc was more than 80,000 yuan/m3 (nearly 300 million dong). Even the common basswood, originating from camphor trees, could reach 10,000 yuan/m3 (nearly 36 million dong).

Because of the high value of agarwood, since ancient times, only kings and queens could own this precious wood. Specifically, during the Ming and Qing dynasties in China, agarwood became a precious wood used exclusively for all royal palaces and used to make royal coffins.
