Every year, Apple updates its list of products that fall into the vintage or obsolete category. By Apple’s definition, “vintage” devices are those that have been discontinued within the past five years. While Apple Stores and Authorized Service Providers can still provide repairs for these devices, this ability depends on the availability of the necessary parts. This suggests that official support from Apple will gradually decrease.

Once a device has been discontinued for seven years, it becomes “obsolete,” meaning Apple will no longer provide technical support for that product. This means Apple stores will no longer perform hardware repairs on the device.
Two Apple devices listed as antiques
First released in 2015, the iPhone 6s was not just an upgrade, but a testament to Apple's progress in improving the product. The phone remained on the market as a budget option for users until 2018, which shows its popularity and lasting value.
With the powerful A9 chip, the iPhone 6s delivers outstanding performance. In particular, the durable design with reinforced aluminum frame has overcome the design problems of the iPhone 6. In addition, the iPhone 6s also pioneered the introduction of 3D Touch technology, helping users quickly access features through different levels of pressure. This is also the last iPhone model to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack, adding to its appeal.

Along with the iPhone 6s, the Mac mini 2018 has also been added to the vintage device list. This is the last version to use Intel chips before Apple switched to Apple Silicon architecture. The Mac mini 2018 provided powerful and flexible performance for many users before Apple changed models.
In 2024, Apple added 12 Mac computers to the obsolete products list, including the iPhone 5s and three other iconic products: the iPhone X, the first-generation HomePod, and the first-generation AirPods. In 2025, the Apple Watch Series 4 and the 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro will also be added to the list.
With the iPhone 6s and Mac mini 2018 officially becoming vintage devices, they will be declared obsolete in two years, after which Apple will stop providing technical support for them, marking the end of an era in the history of technology.
