Earlier this week, some users reported that their M4 iPad Pros were experiencing issues after installing the iPadOS 18 update, which was released on Monday. According to user feedback, the M4 iPad Pro devices were unable to function after the update. In response, Apple quickly responded and temporarily removed the update for affected iPad models, saying it was working on a fix.

Serious error prevents iPad Pro M4 from booting
In an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, Apple confirmed the issue affecting some M4 iPad Pro models when users installed iPadOS 18. The company said that a “small number” of users have encountered a situation where their devices are unable to restart after the update.
Apple has instructed store technicians to attempt a “force restart” of the device before recommending a replacement. However, there are currently no details on when a fix will be widely available. For users who have not yet updated, Apple recommends staying on iPadOS 17 until an official solution is available.
iPadOS 18 causes serious problems only on iPad Pro M4
Other iPad models do not appear to be experiencing the same issue, as the iPadOS 18 update continues to be available on these devices. Affected users have reported that their iPads stopped working completely after installing the update. In one particular case, a user reported that their iPad suddenly shut down during the update and would not restart. Even a software restore via computer did not work.
One user shared: "I took my device to the Apple Store and they confirmed that it was completely damaged. However, they said they had to send my device to engineers to check before they could replace it, even though I had purchased AppleCare."
New features in iPadOS 18
Despite the serious issues, iPadOS 18 still attracts attention with many new features. This update brings a Home screen with custom icons, Math Notes, Smart Script handwriting feature, live audio transcription, along with the first Calculator app on iPad and Game Mode for users who love to play.
