Visitors to the historical site are given explanations about the forms of torture at Phu Tuong camp. Known as the French-style tiger cage, it was secretly built in 1940 with 120 solitary confinement cells.
Above the tiger cages was a system of bars and corridors for the guards. They often used long sticks with sharp iron tips to stab and poke prisoners, along with many other barbaric torture methods such as pouring dirty water on them, throwing lime powder, and forbidding them from bathing...
At its peak, 5-12 people were crammed into a single cell. They had to eat, sleep, defecate, and urinate right there, which was extremely difficult.
The Con Dao Museum serves as a historical sanctuary, preserving artifacts related to the national liberation struggle and the history of the people and land of Con Dao.
