Bac Me Beauty along Gam River

After implementing the two-level government, Bac Me commune was established on the basis of merging 3 administrative units, including: Yen Phong commune, Lac Nong and Yen Phu town. Located at the headland of the Fatherland, Bac Me possesses the quiet, wild beauty of mountains and forests and contains the heroic historical marks of a resilient land in the resistance war to save the country. Here, there is the gentle Gam river, winding like a green silk strip across the mountains and forests, which is both the source of life for the people and a historical witness, closely associated with the changes of this land of great potential.

Blending nature and historical memories

Bac Me Commune is one of the mountainous communes with wild, rustic beauty, not yet fully "awakened" by tourism . This place has high mountains, old forests, poetic valleys and especially the Gam River - a historical river associated with the activities, life, culture and memories of the resistance wars of the local people. The Gam River flows through Bac Me with a gentle, deep blue beauty all year round. When traveling by boat, visitors can feel the quiet and charming beauty of the mountains and forests. The river bends softly between the limestone mountains, creating a landscape like a watercolor painting. In the dry season, the alluvial land containing a lot of silt is used by people to grow corn to increase income, opening up a green space, creating a rare peaceful scene in modern life.

If Gam River is likened to a cool green silk strip of nature, this river is also a historical witness to many ups and downs, from the resistance war against France to the resistance war against America. Bac Me used to be a revolutionary base area, a place for a liaison station, an important corridor connecting the base area with the war zones. Many river wharf areas used to be the stopping place for ferries carrying revolutionary cadres across the river, and a place to receive goods and food to serve the resistance war.

According to history, Bac Me commune is a "red address" with the Bac Me Cang Historical - Cultural Relic Area recognized as a National Historical - Cultural Relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 1992. This place was built by the French colonialists in the early 20th century with 3 areas including: Cang Center, Bang Ta house area and salt warehouse area, this is the evidence marking the period of resistance against French colonialism, where many revolutionary soldiers were imprisoned, a revolutionary school with many indomitable examples of steadfast will, optimism, and persistent fighting spirit of communists in prisons of the colonial and imperialist regimes. Along with that, Bac Me commune also bears the historical vestiges of Ba Tu pagoda, Bo Cung village, after being surveyed and collected by functional agencies, 173 artifacts were found, of which: from the Tran dynasty there were 156 artifacts including bricks, tiles, architectural decorations, tower fragments, glazed pottery, fine porcelain, rough porcelain; During the Early Le Dynasty, there were 8 artifacts of white-glazed blue-painted ceramics and white-glazed ceramics; during the Later Le Dynasty, there were 3 artifacts of white ceramics; during the Nguyen Dynasty, there were 3 artifacts of cover bricks. During the excavation of the relic, the authorities discovered 12,456 artifacts dating from the Ly Dynasty to the Nguyen Dynasty.

Developing experiential tourism, exploring caves, and boating on the Gam River. In particular, the eco-tourism route "Journey on the Gam River" is being invested in and developed by the Party Committee of the commune and related sectors; this tourist route not only brings economic value but also contributes to promoting the image of the land converging natural beauty and history to friends near and far. At the same time, promoting the preservation and promotion of the value of historical relics, encouraging people to preserve traditional cultural features of the nation... This is not only a way to preserve the soul of the homeland, but also the basis for Bac Me commune to develop sustainable tourism in the direction of linking culture with creating livelihoods for people.
